Good Morning Friends!

Attached is a flyer for a holiday event for families. I have been communicating with the organizers , Indelible Soultions, a Florida minority-owned business. Indelible had this same event in Fort Myers last year and served more than 5,000 children.

This flyer was designed especially for our children and families in our Title 1 Schools, public housing at the Tallahassee Housing Authority and those served by Family Promise of the Big Bend (formerly the Big Bend Homeless Coalition). Please share this flyer with your families and instruct them to use the QR code to register.

To LCS parents and school communities-

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

The Florida Department of Education has updated the names and coding of events that are to be reported in the School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting (hereafter referred to as SESIR.) SESIR pertains to safety incidents that occur on campus. SESIR events are not exclusive to students, and anyone who commits a SESIR worthy act on a school campus will have their action listed on that schools SESIR report.
On January 17th, new guidelines were introduced for SESIR reporting from Rule 6A-1.0017,F.A.C, School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting. In summary, the changes have expanded the reporting requirements of schools and school districts

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 - 2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child's school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example - one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K - 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

Good Morning Sabal Palm Families,
We have been notified of a positive case at Sabal Palm. All families have been notified and are quarantining. We are making extra efforts to make sure that the classrooms are clean and disinfected each day and throughout the day.

These exposures, unfortunate as they are, highlight the importance of everyone doing their part to minimize the spread of this virus: stay home when sick or while waiting for Covid-19 test results, keep things clean and sanitized, utilize proper hand washing, wear masks, and maintain social distancing.

Dear Sabal Palm Community,
Superintendent Hanna participated in a conference call this morning with Governor Rick Scott and Commissioner Pam Stewart where they provided an update and discussed preparations.

As of this time we do not have any impacts to our school operations. The forecast still anticipates the center of the storm to be near Key West on Saturday morning. The big question remains as to exactly when the storm will make its inevitable turn to the north.

As we continue to work through the disruption it caused-and while this is fresh in our mind-please take a moment to make sure that your emergency contact information is up to date with your school. In the event of an actual emergency or a threat is deemed credible, we will contact you via phone call.

The Sabal Palm Family is sadden today due to the loss of one of our beloved faculty members. Coach Farley, our PE teacher, passed away unexpectedly last night. The students will not be seeing him in PE any longer. We all loved Coach Farley and will miss him a lot. He was a wonderful member of the Sabal Palm Family. Administration briefly shared information with the students today at school and many parents were contacted by phone. You will be receiving a letter this afternoon as well.

Dear Parents,

In 2002, citizens approved an amendment to the Florida Constitution that
set limits on the number of students in core academic classes in the
state’s public schools. Over the past few years, schools have been allowed
to meet class size using school averages. Beginning this year, schools
will have to meet the class size limits for every core academic class,
which at the elementary school includes all classes with the exception of
the special areas such as art, music, and physical education. The maximum
number of students in each core class for 2010-2011 will be:

Floridians;

With the 2010 Census underway, I am writing to inform you that the Florida
House of Representatives has launched www.myfloridacensus.gov to make sure
that every Floridian gets counted, and we need your help! Each Floridian
not counted means between $900 and $3,000 dollars a year in missed Federal
funds. These lost funds will have to be made-up by local taxes or less
services.

What is it? The Penny Harvest is a year-long service –learning program that
engages students in community building, character education, and
leadership.

The penny harvest starts in September, when students, supported by their
families and community, collect idle pennies. It continues in January,
when Penny Harvest student leaders at each school sit on a Philanthropy
roundtable and allocate the money they raised-typically $1,000 – to make
grants and fund student led service-learning projects to help their
communities.

Suspicious Incident Raises Awareness

Yesterday, just before 7:00PM, the Tallahassee Police Department received a
phone call in reference to a suspicious incident that occurred after a
local peewee football practice. The caller, identified as the football
coach, indicated that one of his ten-year-old players was leaving practice
(Gilchrist Elementary School), when a white male stranger offered the boy a
ride home. The boy refused and the stranger fled as the coach neared the
vehicle. Accompanying the man inside the vehicle was a white female, who
appeared to be approximately 5 years of age. The girl has blue eyes and was

Earlier this year, I shared information that the Florida Department of
Education, due to budgetary considerations, is no longer making individual
student FCAT results available via the FCAT Parent Network website. As
some parents may believe they still can (as for the past few years) access
their child’s FCAT results via this route, we are requesting that schools
post this information to their List Serve. This year, the only way that
parents can get their child’s FCAT results is to come to the school or
wait for distribution of the hard-copy Student and Parent Report.

Dear Sabal Palm parents,

It has come to my attention that some of you may not be aware of the
proposed changes to the school attendance zones. It is very important to
me that you are informed. The school board made the difficult decision to
close Belle Vue Middle School in February. I immediately appointed a
committee of parents, teachers and school administrators to evaluate
alternatives for rezoning those students. The committee held several
public meetings and on March 24th presented their rezoning plan to the
School Board. The School Board will have a final vote on the proposed
rezoning

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! We are excited to begin a new school
year with your child and to continue our “Sabal Palm Express to
Excellence”. We are committed to providing a quality education and
nurturing environment for all students. This summer we were awarded a
school grade of “C” and accomplished what many of the other schools could
not do; make “AYP”. AYP – Adequate Yearly Progress required under the
federal No Child Left Behind Law is a measure of a school’s ability to meet
required academic performance for every subgroup of students. Yes, we
educate all students!
