Students and parents should be able to view academic information in FOCUS now. Please note, due to limited space and class capacity, schedule change requests will not be honored. Parents and students, there are future changes that are inevitable as a result of test scores and student's required courses for graduation. Therefore, your child's schedule may change to ensure academic success. All schedules are reviewed by the student's counselor, for accuracy and approval. Parents, guardians, and students, please be assured, we are working endlessly to review for consideration, every student's course request and/or correction form that was submitted prior to the deadline. Step 3: Once you have the waiver code from your counselor, log back in to your account and select the test date and location. This is when you are actually registering for the test. When you get to the payment page, put in your waiver number.
Step 4: Complete the registration by uploading your picture and printing your ticket. Make sure you know where and when you test and what you have to bring!
* Helpful hints- You are permitted 4 waivers for the ACT and 2 waivers for the SAT during your entire high school career. You must be classified as a junior or senior to utilize a waiver.
* As a Title 1 school, all Rickards students are eligible for waivers.
* Register EARLY to get the test date and location you want.
* If you need help at ANY time reach out to your counselor in GUIDANCE.
* If you register for a test, you must go and take the test. If you do not, you have wasted your waiver. In addition, you are denying another student their opportunity to test.

Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year! We all look forward to another successful year and welcome your cooperation and participation as we strive to continue and build upon the achievements of our IB Program.
Two-thirds of or IB Administrative Team is brand new this year, but our offices are still in the main administration building. We welcome Mrs. Melissa Cooper and Mrs. Victoria Williams to our IB Administrative Team! Both are experienced Rickards educators, and we are excited about the valuable experience and skills they bring to our IB Program.

We welcome all our Rickards students back to campus this school year. Just like all other Leon County Schools, we continue to use CANVAS this year as our primary online tool for curriculum delivery in order to minimize the number of different web sites students have to go to in order to communicate with their teachers and access their online learning materials. Students still need to use FOCUS to keep track of their official grades and attendance in each of their classes.
For our IB juniors and seniors, we are still using ManageBac to keep track of CAS progress and document CAS experiences and reflections, and we will still use ManageBac to upload all Extended Essay documents and keep track of student progress on their EEs. IB Juniors will receive access to this portal soon and will receive training on how to use it.

Science teachers would also like to remind parents and students that students need bring their charged Chromebook to school each day. It is used daily in science classes for various assignments.
Earth Space would like to remind students that the lab fee is $20.
Science classes are off and running with many classes having already completed their first labs or doing them this week.
Anatomy and Physiology will be is working on a homeostasis lab this week. Forensics is learning about observing scenarios and how eyewitness accounts may not be accurate. IB and AP biology are working on properties of water and macromolecules, while Pre-IB and honors biology are working on labs on scientific method and surface tension. Physics students are conducting labs to practice measurements, scientific units, and significant figures. In chemistry, students are learning to make foam while practicing lab technique. Environmental Science students conducting labs to test various factors that affect seed germination and plant growth in radish.

Latin:
The Latin classes have been working on building a sense of community while also getting into the story of Familia Romana Per Se Illustrata at each level, while IB 5 and 6 students have started to grapple with authentic Roman Love Poetry. First assessments soon.
Our Latin Club, JCL, held its first general meeting on Monday, August 22nd during lunch in Mr. A's room and it was pretty much standing room only. The club has many events coming up and we are excited for the year to come.
French:
French IB courses are continuing to engage in conversations surrounding French literary masterpieces in preparation for the IB exam in May!
