Hello Hawks Rise Families,

What a great first week of October! We had Custodian Appreciation, the Principal’s Book Chat, and our first Nest Lunch of the year! A huge thank you to our PTO volunteers for organizing and delivering our Nest shirts this week and for decorating the cafeteria on Friday. The students loved it!

Recognition

Congratulations to Mr. Hoff (School Related Employee of the Year), Mrs. Seymour (Glenn-Howell Distinguished Educator of the Year), and Mrs. Ingram (Teacher of the Year). We are proud to have them represent Hawks Rise!

Information

  * It’s nice to live in a University Town! Attached is a flyer from the FSU Psychology Department with information about a research study that may be of interest to you.

  * Add to your calendar—Share Night—Nov. 8. See the attached flyer.

  * Skill of the Week—Self Control—Having control over your feelings and actions.

  * We had a great time at the 2nd-5th Book Chat this week. The Principal’s Chat for October will be for our K-2nd grade students. The book is Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton. We have copies in the Media Center ready for checkout. 1st and 2nd grade students should take an AR test, and Kindergarten students should draw a picture of something they learned from the book. Be sure to include the student’s name on the back of the picture and then turn these pictures in to their classroom teacher.

  * October is Bully Prevention Month, and this year’s theme is Be an Upstander. Our Guidance Counselors, Mrs. German and Mrs. Vogt, will be supporting our teachers and students as we work together to prevent bullying.

  * Red Ribbon Week is October 23-27! Let’s celebrate together. See the attached flyer.

  *   Don’t forget---Thursday is Fall Picture Day.

Safety

  * Our recent Lockdown drill went very well. This year, we are holding these drills at different times throughout the day to help us be better prepared for an emergency. This week’s drill was held during lunchtime. We were very proud of all of our students, but especially those in the cafeteria. Even though there were over a 100 students eating lunch, the drill was quiet and quick. Way to go, Hawks!
