Take Your Child to Work Day
Due to FCAT testing, we will not hold the Take Your Child to Work Day on the national date of April 24th. Instead, Leon County Schools will hold the event on May 8th, 2014. This may still interfere with a few middle school students whose EOC exam falls on May 8th and the principal has the authority to deny participation in this event if the date interferes with a statewide exam. The participation form will be available as we get closer to the date of the event.
Volunteering At Griffin
The donation drive ended today. Thank you for your donations during our Goodwill Industries-Big Bend Donations Drive.
Your support for this community drive was very much appreciated.
Our next SAC/PTO meeting is on Monday, March 3rd, in the media center. The SAC meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. and the PTO meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. We look forward to you joining us!
We have many opportunities for you to volunteer at Griffin. If you have not filled out a volunteer form yet, there is one attached. Once you have filled it out, you can email it to me or bring it by the office during school hours. Once we receive the form, it will take about 2 weeks to process. Please do not miss out on volunteering at your child's school. We need you and your student will benefit from your presence at school. Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you.

It's already February - this year is off to a quick start! This month our wellness tip is to Put Sweets in Their PLACE!!! How do you do that you ask, great question!
*Teaching/learning self-control: We live in a society that caters to all of our wants immediately. Sweets should be used as a treat not a snack or substitute meal. Most of us give into our hunger with sweets because we didn't prepare previously for snack time.
Students should have limited access to sweets and sweets should not be used as desserts. The more we as parents give our children dry fruit, healthy snacks, fresh fruit and vegetables the more we can make a sweet treat just that....a treat! Try this healthy pudding snack below:
Chocolate pudding
Ingredients:
1 can of coconut milk
4 to 6 pitted dates
2 tbsp baking cocoa
Directions:
Use the lid to strain and pour the liquid out of the can and into a bowl, leaving the coconut cream in the can.
Take the dates and slice them into smaller pieces allow them to soak in the reserved coconut liquid in the bowl (up to 10-20 minutes can be done overnight). Place dates and liquid in a blender or food processor chop them up until they are as fine as possible.
Add the coconut cream from the can to the blender along with cocoa and blend together with the dates, scraping down the sides of the blender when necessary, until smooth and creamy like pudding.

Dress Code Policy Implementation
As we enter the second half of the 2013-2014 school year, please take a moment to review our dress code guidelines. When making clothing purchases over the break, please ensure that jeans do not have holes, rips, or tears above the knee, tights are only worn under clothing items that are in dress code (shorts, skirts or dresses reach fingertips), and no see through tops or blouses. Students that are out of dress code will be assigned one day of ISD, we will continue to follow the steps on the Progressive Discipline thereafter which will ultimately result in OSS.
