Principal's Message
Now is the time to take stock of how well (or poorly) your children are doing in school. You
should have received a mid-year report card recently. It's not too late for children who are failing
to pass. Also, if they quit working now, it's not too late for children who are doing well to fail. In
addition to the progress reflected by the report cards, students need to perform well on the
various tests that will be given during the next two months in order to be promoted to the next
grade. Now is the time to evaluate your child's progress and if necessary take the steps needed to
insure his/her success.
Paul R. Green, Principal

Test Taking Tips For Parents:
1. Be sure your child is well rested before the test. No late night TV or other activities.
2. Start the day with a Wholesome Breakfast. No junk foods on test days.
3. Build confidence by empathizing all the things your child has done well.
Brag to others about your kid, especially when they can hear what you are saying.
4. Review the test preparation materials provided by the teachers with your child. In addition to
helping the child master the material, it will also indicate that you are interested in them doing
well.
5. It is easy to emphasize the test, but don't over do it to the point it causes undue anxiety.
6. Encouragement and love are great motivators. Give your kids a healthy dose of both.

Nutrition Tip of the Week
A winter alternative to fresh fruit:
Eating fruits and vegetables is easy in the summer when everything is fresh and readily available.
What do you do in the winter? Try dried fruit. It's always available. Like fresh fruit, dried fruit
provides fiber, vitamins A and C, potassium and folate. Each serving of dried fruit may contain
more calories than fresh, but in the dead of winter, it's still a good choice. Dried fruit is easy to
carry. It can be added to salads, pancake batter, bread recipes or even your daily bowl of cereal.

Physical Activity Tip of the Week
Exercise and Energy:
Just 20 minutes of light exercise a day will dramatically increase your energy levels. Stretching
decreases stress-induced fatigue. Use it or lose it: energy sticks around only as long as you keep
exercising.
