Happy Wednesday, Cobb Families!

Progress reports have been published in the FOCUS Parent Portal account. You may access them there through the web browser or the FOCUS app. Progress reports are a great opportunity to review with you student the material they have covered so far and find areas that they are struggling. There is still PLENTY of time to raise grades during the month of October.

Things to remember:

  * The first two weeks of assignments were not content-based materials. They were Getting to Know You activities for students and teachers; teaching lessons on how to use Canvas; rules and procedures here at Cobb; and other similar tasks. Teachers will not be having students make those up because they are not relevant the grade AND they will not greatly impact your overall grade - many of them are just task completion things.
  * Assessments - tests, quizzes, projects - count for 70% of the grade. This means these larger items have more impact on a student grade. There have not been many of these yet this year, and more are coming. It is more important to focus on current tasks and prepare for upcoming items then spend significant time catching up on smaller tasks in the past.
  * FOCUS is the gradebook of record. Some tasks in Canvas may not be migrated over to FOCUS - things that are just checkbox items or small exit tickets. The grade in FOCUS is the correct average and what will be reported at the end of the grading period.

What to do if you have questions:

  1. Have your student log into Canvas and walk you through the course and grade. If you still have questions about something, have your student Canvas Inbox the teacher the question. One of the most important skills a student can learn in middle school is how to manage his or her own grades and teacher communication.
  2. E-mail the teacher your specific questions.
  3. Contact the guidance office to find supports for your student
     *   Mrs. Christoph - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> - 6th grade and 7th grade A-M
     *   Mr. Allen - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> - 7th grade N-Z and 8th grade
  4. Reach out to our Assistant Principal of Curriculum Mr. Rudenborg - [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

Thank you for helping us with your student's success. We look forward to working with you the rest of this year!
