Good afternoon, Cobb Family -

As we approach the start of school, I want to give some guidance to the parents and students that have chosen to participate in this program or for those of you are considering switching.

Student Schedule -
Students will be scheduled into the same courses that they would have brick and mortar, and they will follow the same 3x3 schedule that the school is following. This means that three times per day, they will be logged into the computer for 30 - 45 minutes of live, interactive instruction with their teacher. They will have time to complete independent work and receive support from their teacher throughout the day - allowing flexibility for screen time. Course log-in time will depend upon the teacher, but once assigned will be consistent throughout the grading period.

Additionally, students will be assigned a homeroom - this will be a single point of contact for the student and parents for support. The homeroom teacher will help direct students and parents to necessary supports, assist in monitoring grades, check in on students who are not participating, and help make sure all of our students are staying on track.

Socialization\Peers -
Through Canvas, students will be able to interact with their peers similarly to class - group work, class discussions, breakout rooms for small group, and more. By using Canvas for our digital instruction, we will be able to embed opportunities for students to interact and feel supported. In addition, daily there will be open rooms for students to pop into - such as during lunch to have a break with other students.

Clubs & Activities -
All of the extracurricular activities that Cobb has had in the past WANT to continue. We will make sure that those are available as well - want to be part of SGA? Coding club? SWAT? BETA? Awesome! Because we want you to as well. We are moving these activities to virtual meetings and groups, as well. All students will be able to participate in these activities after school. Two weeks after the start of school, we will hold a virtual club fair for students to sign up for activities that they feel like they would want to try. Meeting times for clubs will be either before or after school, and they will be virtual.

Do you have other questions? Let me know!
