A bit of good news to share from the social studies department! Despite the pandemic, eighth grade magnet students created research projects for National History Day, several groups advancing to the district competition. I am incredibly proud to report that THREE of our CMS projects will be advancing to the state NHD competition!

Eli Bryant and Hudson Williams, 1st place at districts - Group Website, Jr. Division: Survivors of World War II: How an Unknown Language Helped Beat the Japanese

Austin Kolman, 2nd place at districts -  Individual Paper, Jr. Division: The Navajo Code Talkers and their Unbreakable Code

Alexandria Meis and Sujin Van Hoeij, 1st place at districts - Group Documentary: The Camp with the Yellow Star: Communicating Hope Through the Arts

I have to brag on Alexandria and Sujin specifically. This will be their third year in a row advancing to the state NHD competition and their third year in a row winning first place at districts in their respective competing category. History Fair wasn't even required of them in sixth and seventh grade! These girls are some TRUE COMPETITORS! Their researching abilities are unmatched and their projects are truly one of a kind.
