Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2024 Spring Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child’s school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example – one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K – 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

To LCS parents and school communities—

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

Good afternoon teachers,
In an effort to try to increase parental involvement AND provide support for you, we are implementing Homeroom parents. We are asking for 2-3 parents per class to serve as homeroom parents for your classroom. These parents will work directly with you and I in various task. This is especially important this year being that we are now on year two with parents not being allowed on campus. I’m sure you can understand the level of trust it takes for some of our parents to be able to send their precious child(ren) to us day after day

ORES Parents/Guardians,

We received notice that one of our students has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been at school for the past two days, but was at school on Monday.

Anyone who was found to be close contact with the student has been identified through contact tracing and has/will receive a phone call from Oak Ridge. These notified parents (phone call) will also be provided a letter from the Health Department advising them of the steps they must follow during their quarantine. A close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of an infected

ORES Families,

I wanted to be sure that you know that we were in a severe weather stance today starting at 11:35<x-apple-data-detectors://0> am with all students safe in their classrooms. We delivered lunches to students so there was no travel around campus. We were in this stance until 1<x-apple-data-detectors://1>:00 and remained in constant contact with LCS. I am greatly appreciative of the office of Safety and Security for calling to check on us due to our school location in proximity to the path of the storm.

In the update we were informed that 246 students (.8 percent of all students districtwide) and 58 employees (1.2 percent of all employees) either tested positive or were exposed to someone who was positive over the break

Dear LCS Community—

Today we launch a LCS Wellness Wonderland campaign that will share a “flurry” of health and wellness tips in our effort to ensure a Safe Start in 2021. We need your support to make sure our school communities, district offices and our community-at-large are doing everything they can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the winter break. We hope that this information will remind everyone that whether it is the start of a new year, or the start of each day, a Safe Start begins with all of us.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community:
The Florida Department of Health in Leon County is teaming up with Leon County Government and Leon County Schools on a fun campaign that encourages children to become superheroes in the fight against mosquitoes.

Leon County Schools observes its annual Spring Break next week, March 14 -18. This is an exciting time of year but also a time to make sure that our students are thinking about safety.

This week, we have visited every high school campus to talk with students about making good decisions. We have had great discussions with them about how to enjoy activities during spring break while maintaining awareness of potentially harmful situations they encounter.

Recently, Governor Scott signed a bill that returns district autonomy regarding end-of-year assessments for many courses.

Previous to this action, the state mandated final assessments for all subjects and district-wide assessments for all courses used to meet high school graduation requirements. Often referred to as "EOYs," these assessments were developed by Leon County Schools and were scheduled to be administered this year for the first time.

On July 26th school grades were released. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Oak Ridge Elementary School team, parents and community for your support of our educational program. Oak Ridge Parents/Guardians,

DOE has provided parent/guardian letters from Commissioner Robinson. With the transitions that took place this year, including reporting scores on the new FCAT 2.0 scale and the more rigorous scoring procedures for FCAT Writing, they felt parents would have questions about these changes. These letters are designed to help explain the new standards and changes in the assessment program, as well as the student's individual score(s). It is required to place these letters on your school's ListServe and/or any other method of correspondence you use. These letters also direct parents to additional resources to help answer questions

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

It is with great excitement that I share our wonderful news regarding our 2011 FCAT Writing Scores! Oak Ridge Elementary students earned the highest writing scores out of all Leon County Elementary Schools. 100% of our students scored a level 3 or higher and 93% scored a level 4 or higher! This is a great accomplishment and it is contributed to the hard work of our students, teachers, staff, parents and community members!!

Hello All,
This month kicks off our first series of the Train the Trainer Title I Parenting Counts Workshops for school parent contact /liaisons. Research tells us that the bond between a parent and child is created in the first five years of a child's life, which leads to improved student achievement.

Dear Parents,

This week I joined other superintendents from throughout the state in asking the Florida Department of Education to take a closer look at some of the FCAT data before assigning grades for our schools. The coalition of superintendents' inquiry is focused solely on GAIN scores, a comparison of last year's FCAT scores to this year's. This is the only situation where we have seen anomalies.

Dear Parents:

The Florida Department of Education (DOE) was recently informed of a website
that is taking advantage of parents possibly misspelling the Internet
address for the FCAT Parent Network. Parents should note that the correct
address for the FCAT Parent Network is: www.fcatparentnetwork.com. Parents
should also note that they will be routed to the wrong website if they
accidentally type “www.fcatparentsnetwork.com”.
