Attention 6th Grade RAA PARENTS!!

On Thursday, November 9th we will be partnering with "Who We Play For" (WWPF) to provide every sixth-grade student the opportunity to get their heart checked with an electrocardiogram (ECG). Thanks to a generous donation from Simply Healthcare, Who We Play For's electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening program will be free of charge for all sixth-grade students. 6th grade students have already opted into the screening at the time they opted-in for vision and hearing screenings. However, if they would like to opt-out now, they can do so by editing this information in FOCUS or by contacting the school.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in schools and in sports- more than any form of cancer, concussion, or illness combined. Thousands of seemingly healthy kids die every single year due to detectable heart conditions.

Why take advantage of this electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening?

* ECG heart screening is noninvasive, takes 5 minutes, and can be life-saving. The standard physical only detects about 4% of underlying heart conditions, adding an ECG improves those odds to 95%.

* An ECG typically costs around $150.

* Advised for every athlete by the Florida High School Athletic Association.

In addition to Simply Healthcare, huge thank you to Who We Play For's partners in this life-saving effort, including: Parent Heart Watch, Who We Play For FSU Chapter, The Tom Project, Neighborhood Medical, FSU College of Medicine, FSU Jim Moran College, The Southern Group, Holliman, P.A., and The Current Agency.

What is Who We Play For (WWPF)?

Who We Play For represents every young person who lost their life due to a detectable heart condition missed in their physical. WWPF's mission is to eliminate preventable sudden cardiac death in the young by providing affordable ECG heart screenings. WWPF brings affordable, efficient, and non-invasive ECG heart screenings to communities across the country. As a Florida-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, founded in Tallahassee, WWPF has brought together a combination of international and national experts intertwined with a large network of partners to accomplish remarkable results. This includes over two dozen local, state, and federal laws and advocacy bills, educating millions on the immense public health crisis that is SCA. WWPF's vision is to inspire & empower medical providers, schools, sports clubs, and communities to provide ECG heart screenings for every student-athlete, and student; no matter their level of athletics, socio-economic status, or geographical location.

Throughout WWPF's program history, WWPF has become the largest heart screening nonprofit in the United States, having provided ECG heart screenings for more than 200,000 student-athletes and young people across 500+ communities. These groups include hundreds of colleges, high schools, middle schools, sports clubs, and medical providers across the country. The result of the WWPF heart screening program has been hundreds of young lives saved from previously undetected, life-threatening heart conditions requiring immediate medical intervention. WWPF has also identified thousands of minor heart abnormalities, which can lead to SCA later in life.

For Every Kid Who Never Had The Opportunity.
