[image002.jpg@01D842C2]Attention 6th Grade RAA PARENTS!!

On Tuesday, November 7th we will be partnering with "Who We Play For" (WWPF) to provide every sixth-grade student the opportunity to get their heart checked with an electrocardiogram (ECG). Thanks to a generous donation from CDR Health, Who We Play For's ECG heart screening program will be free of charge for all sixth-grade students. If you would like to opt out now, please log onto your student's FOCUS account under "Health Screenings", then select "ECG Consent".
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in schools and in sports- more than any form of cancer, concussion, or illness combined. Thousands of seemingly healthy kids die every single year due to detectable heart conditions, which is why Leon County Schools is thrilled to work with Who We Play For to provide this vital service.
Why take advantage of this electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening?
ECG heart screening is non-invasive, takes 5 minutes, and can be life-saving. The standard physical only detects about 4% of underlying heart conditions, adding an ECG improves those odds to 95%.
* An ECG typically costs around $150.
* Advised for every athlete by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
Here is a quick video<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF8SlXw-Dxc> for you and your student(s) to show just how easy the screening process will be.
In addition to CDR Health, huge thank you to Who We Play For's partners in this life-saving effort, including: Parent Heart Watch, TOC, Wolfson's Children's Hospital, Who We Play For FSU Chapter, The Tom Project, FSU College of Medicine, FSU Jim Moran College, The Southern Group, Holliman, P.A., and The Current Agency.

What is Who We Play For (WWPF)?
Who We Play For represents every young person who lost their life due to a detectable heart condition missed in their physical. As a Florida-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, founded in Tallahassee, WWPF has brought together a combination of international and national experts intertwined with a large network of partners to accomplish remarkable results. This includes over two dozen local, state, and federal laws and advocacy bills, educating millions on the immense public health crisis that is SCA. WWPF's vision is to inspire & empower medical providers, schools, sports clubs, and communities to provide ECG heart screenings for every student-athlete, and student; no matter their level of athletics, socio-economic status, or geographical location.
Who We Play For has become the largest heart screening nonprofit in the United States, providing ECGs for more than 250,000 student-athletes and young people across 500+ communities including hundreds of colleges, high schools, middle schools, sports clubs, and medical providers throughout the country. The result of the WWPF heart screening program has been hundreds of young lives saved from previously undetected, life-threatening heart conditions requiring immediate medical intervention. WWPF has also identified thousands of minor heart abnormalities, which can lead to SCA later in life.
For Every Kid Who Never Had The Opportunity!
