Good Afternoon!
It has been a great first week! Our students have had a great time beginning the learning process and meeting new friends. Please find us on Facebook and hopefully next week we will begin posting pictures more regularly showing all the great things happening here each day! Please look through a few reminders and updates below for next week.

AM Drop OFF
Things are starting to speed up in the morning. Currently there is no line between 8:00 - 8:20. Please remember that students cannot be dropped off in front of the school. Drop off begins at 7:45 and ends at 8:25 in order for all students to be in class on time. Please be here before 8:25 each day. Once you pull up to the rail and all the way forward your children can exit the car by themselves if they are able. We will help all students who need assistance exit the car and then on to class. Students who are late will need to be walked into the front office by a parent to sign in for the day.

PM Pick-Up
CARS, CARS, and More CARS! That's pretty much all I can say about PM dismissal. Conley is unique in that we have a high number of families that have joined us on school choice. Nearly half of our students are here on school choice and therefore cannot ride a bus or walk home because they live outside our zone. The result is 350+ cars coming through our line each day. We use a pickup system that organizes our students in order to make the process go as fast as possible, but we need your help to go even faster. Students are organized in the order of your cars arriving. Please consider the following items to help us go as quick as possible:

* If you child is able to ride the bus home please consider allowing your child to ride the bus

* Students who live within 2 miles are eligible to walk home if you fill out the attached form

* We do not allow parents to walk up to collect their children in order to know where all of the students are and who is taking them home

* As you pull into the line have your number visible for quick entry

* Do not cut in the line and bypass cars because you will be out of order which slows the process

* If you are coming from Capital Circle or Four Oaks Blvd please head all the way down Orange Avenue to U-turn into the line instead of cutting into the existing line

* As the line moves, pull all the way forward quickly and safely to the front station. The students will move to you, you do not have to roll slow and watch for them

* If your child misses the call to come out the person at the last station (red) will ask for your child's name and grade to call for them to come out

* We are done with the line by 3:25 each day. If you do not have time to wait consider joining the line around 3:05-3:10 for a shorter wait

* Please be in line by 3:15 each day. Students whose families are not in line by 3:15 will be sent to the office to be signed out.

Morning Show Applications
WCSS is a morning news show at Conley Elementary that is produced by students and is available on our YouTube channel (found on the Conley webpage). Participating in the news show is an exciting opportunity that allows students to learn technology skills, practice teamwork and use problem solving skills in a real and practical manner. Students will learn how to mix audio/video using professional-grade software, operate the cameras, and be an on-air personality. Therefore, parents who agree to have their child participate on the news crew also means that you are giving permission for him or her to be video recorded and recordings will be on the internet and aired in school. There are many responsibilities in the studio and in the control room. Whatever their job, the students need to be dependable and trustworthy workers.

Students in 4th and 5th grade with excellent behavior and teacher recommendations are eligible to join the news crew. If your child is interested in participating in the WCSS news show, please have your student pick up an application in the Media Center and then return the form with the appropriate signatures. Please make note of the following information:

* Your child must be able to work cooperatively with other crewmembers.

* Your child must be in the studio no later than 8:00 a.m.

* If a child has inappropriate behavior in the classroom, special area classes or the news room the privilege of working on the news crew may be revoked.

Media Center and Classroom Book Access
In accordance HB 1069 (2023), Leon County School Board has approved the attached process for those parents that would like to limit their child's access to media center and classroom libraries.
Only parents that want to limit their child's access through, Parent/guardian Permission, will need to complete the FOCUS form. If you plan to limit your child's access please complete form as soon as possible. The directions for completing the FOCUS form are on the attached form.
