Good morning, Wolves!

It was a great week at The Creek! Our Math team officially qualified for the state competition! I am very proud of our students and sponsors. Our girls soccer season concluded last week. This team showed tremendous growth throughout the season and represented themselves, and Swift Creek, in a positive way. Congratulations, girls! Our Bridge students had a great trip to Sea World on Friday. I appreciate all of our students, chaperones, and teachers for making it a memorable trip!

This week, our boys basketball team plays in the county championships and our chorus and band programs are participating in their MPA's. We wish everyone good luck! We are hosting our incoming 6th grade Bridge Parent Night tomorrow, 2/28, at 6:00 in the Media Center. This meeting will provide our incoming 6th grade parents information about our Bridge program and some exciting changes within the program. We are finalizing a schedule for course registration and information night for our current students and will share that calendar before Spring Break.

Leon County Schools Nutrition Services is implementing a new point of service system (PrimeroEdge) in cafeterias. This new system will be going live at Swift Creek on Wednesday, March 1st. As part of this upgrade, Nutrition Services will be using a new payment portal called SchoolCafe, replacing PayPams. All account balances will be automatically transferred to the new system and PIN numbers will remain the same. Parents will need to create a new SchoolCafe account to manage funds for purchasing meals and A La Carte items, reset any automatic deposits, and manage any restrictions they would like to place on their student's purchasing authorizations. SchoolCafe is available as a mobile app on both Apple and Android devices. In addition to managing meal accounts, parents will also use this app to apply for free and reduced price meals. Please see the attachment for more details. Please see the attachment for more information. Should you have questions about the system or your student's account, please contact the Nutrition Services department at 850-717-2299.

Please see the message below from Leon County Schools regarding School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting (SESIR) and FortifyFl.

The Florida Department of Education has updated the names and coding of events that are to be reported in the School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting (SESIR.) SESIR pertains to safety incidents that occur on campus. SESIR events are not exclusive to students, and anyone who commits a SESIR worthy act on a school campus will have their action listed on that schools SESIR report.
On January 17th, new guidelines were introduced for SESIR reporting from Rule 6A-1.0017,F.A.C, School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting. In summary, the changes have expanded the reporting requirements of schools and school districts to the Department of Education. The new changes have expanded the circumstances where SESIR incidents are required to be reported; regardless of whether law enforcement action was taken, whether the offender had the capacity to understand their behavior, or whether criminal charges were filed by law enforcement.
Additionally, the changes have also revised the 16 SESIR incident categories and definitions. The Department of Education has recognized a need for incident terminology to be uniform across all school districts. While SESIR terminology appears to mirror the criminal justice system terminology, we think it's important for you to know, SESIR data is only used for DOE reporting purposes. As changes to these requirements come, we will inform you all of what is required from us.

FortifyFl is the anonymous reporting application created after the events of Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The app is created and monitored by the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for students, staff, parents and other campus visitors to report suspicious activity on campus, or off campus activity that has the potential to cause a threat on campus. Around the school, you will see posters with QR codes that will take you to the page to submit a tip. You can also submit a tip through the link on the district and our schools website. There is also a Fortifyfl tile on your child's Classlink home page. Before a tip is can be sent, a notice is given about the potential consequences of submitting a purposefully false report. We encourage our students that if they See Something or Hear Something, they need to Say Something, and we do not want to discourage your children from reporting what they believe is a legitimate threat. We do however take false reporting very seriously. In accordance with Florida law, if after an investigation, it is determined that the student knowing submitted a false tip, they could face criminal penalties. This is not to discourage your children from submitting tips. If your child is unsure about whether they saw or heard something, we still encourage them to make a report. The potential criminal penalties are only for those making intentional false reports.

Have a great week!
