Rickards High School Celebrates Black History Month Parents, Guardians, and Students in honor of Black History, our students are encouraged to participate in our daily Black History Trivia questions. Students who have the correct answers, names will be placed
in our daily drawing with a chance to win cash prizes. This is an opportunity where all students can learn the rich history of African Americans, come together as one, and have fun while they learn. Additionally, students with poetic talents are encouraged
to enter their original work by February 20, 2023. Cash prizes will be given to our winners.
Winners will have an opportunity to recite their poems at the Black History Program celebration on February 28, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., RHS Auditorium.
Class Rankings Class rankings are now available to view. Seniors are able to view their class rankings by contacting their assigned Guidance Counselor or the Assistant Principal of Curriculum. Official transcripts can be

Parents and Guardians, we understand the challenges some of our students are experiencing in preparation for the upcoming standardized academic assessments as a result, to help our students to be better prepared,
we will continue to offer additional instructional resources and support outside of the regular school day to ensure the academic success of our students. Students in 9th through 11th grade will be taking one or a variety of the following
assessments: 9th Grade ELA Reading/Writing, 10th Grade ELA Reading/Writing, US History EOC, Biology EOC, Algebra 1 EOC, and Geometry EOC. Rickards is now offering students an opportunity to attend or 21st CCLC Afterschool
Program, Monday-Friday, 2:00-5:30 p.m. In addition, Rickards is also offering 13 different EOC/ELA camps 2023, to students who need assistance with test taking preparation and strategies, good study habits strategies and attendance intervention. Students are

Third Nine-Weeks Progress Reports Progress reports for the
third nine-weeks were uploaded to Parent and Students FOCUS Wednesday, February 9, 2023. Students who have concerns or questions about their grades are encouraged to communicate with their teachers.
Valentine Balloons, Candies, and Flowers We realize that Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 14th. However, balloons, candies, stuffed animals, gifts and/or floral deliveries
WILL NOT be accepted in observance of Valentine’s Day. Although we respect the appreciation and love you have for your child(ren), and our students have for each other; we cannot
accept deliveries due to the distractions it may cause to our regularly scheduled school day. We ask that you please abide by the school’s policy and
do not send or have any deliveries (Valentine’s cards, balloons, flowers, etc.) made to Rickards High. Deliveries that arrive at the school will be returned to the sender(s). Your prompt attention and cooperation are greatly appreciated!

Tallahassee Future Leaders Academy (TFLA) - Summer Youth Employment TFLA hires about 100 local high school students finishing their Freshman – Senior year of high school who live in Tallahassee to work part time for 8 weeks (24 hours / week) this summer for the City, earning and learning in a variety of
areas. It is an opportunity to gain work experience at a job placement, visit college campuses, develop financial literacy, grow knowledge of how to impact our community, and expand leadership skills – all while earning a paycheck and gaining new professional
connections. It is also a great way to meet additional adults who can write strong recommendations for future jobs and/or scholarship/college entry.

TFLA Youth Ambassador (experience required, additional tasks and leadership) positions through the City of Tallahassee’s employment website:

[log in to unmask] Congratulations to IB Senior Sruthi Sentil for being named one of the 40 winners of the Award for Aspirations in Computing by the National Center for Women &Information Technology!
Over 3,300 young women in grades nine through twelve applied for this prestigious award, and Sruthi is one of only three women in the state of Florida chosen to be among the top forty winners. Sruthi was chosen based
on her computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education.
Congratulations to Pre-IB Sophomore Zy’Kerria Gee for being chosen to represent James Rickards High School and the State of Florida at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders June 21, 2023 8 to June 23,
2023, in Boston, Massachusetts! Zy’Kerria was chosen for this honor based on her outstanding grades, leadership potential, and desire to contribute to the field of medicine as a physician or medical scientist.
IB CAS Recognition Night: Parents of IB Seniors, IB Juniors, and Pre-IB Sophomores are invited to attend our annual Title 1 IB CAS Recognition Night on Tuesday, March 28, from 6 pm to 7 pm, in the Rickards
Auditorium. IB Seniors will be recognized for their completion of their CAS requirements; IB juniors will be inducted into IB Diploma Candidacy; and Pre-IB sophomores will be recognized for their transition from Pre-IB
to IB status. IB Senior Celebration:

parent of an IB Junior, you are welcome to participate in this committee. Parents of IB Juniors have helped with senior celebrations in the past in order to plan more effectively their own student’s senior celebration the following year.

The 2022 IB Diplomas and IB Transcripts have arrived from Cardiff, Wales, UK. 2022 IB graduates or their parents can pick them up from Dr. Williams in the front office at Rickards. Please email or call ahead so Dr.
Williams can leave your IB Diploma and/or IB Transcript at the front office for you, in case he is not available when you come to campus.

Our Honors American History students, along with their teacher, Dr. Thompson, have been busy helping our whole school celebrate Black History Month with the theme Black Imagination. The students are working on essays for an essay contest,
helping the teachers decorate their door for a door decorating competition, hosting a natural hair showcase, competing in a poster decorating contest and a poetry contest! These activities are open to ALL RHS students!
In the classroom, Ms. Casanova’s AP US History classes have just finished learning about the Great Depression. The students played a life simulation in which they tracked their finances as if they were living during this time period in
order for them to better understand what life was like. Seniors in Theory of Knowledge are finishing their final TOK essays and preparing them for submission to IB. First year IB Psychology students are finishing up their experiments for their internal assessments
and are beginning their papers. |

IB Science Students- Group 4 presentation is February 15th from 3-5pm in the Auditorium, parents are welcome to attend. IB Environmental Systems and Societies Students- Your IA Draft is this SUNDAY, February 12th! It cannot be written well in one day. Science Olympiad Regional Tournament- February 18th at Bucholz High School in Gainesville. You have to report to the bus ramp at 4:15am.

The list of eligible 10th and 11th graders who are eligible to join NHS has been posted on the first floor of building 23 and 24,
also on all 3 floors of the Science Building (19) and outside the gym. There is a QR code on the flyer by each list of names and on Canvas for students to scan that will take them to the online application. The online application is due by 2:45pm on Friday
February 17th. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Members who complete the application and are chosen to become NHS members will be announced on March 1st by
posting names in the same building locations. Then potential members must attend the MANDATORY induction ceremony on April 12th at 5:30pm in
