Mrs. M. Barriner (formerly Eckerle)
The social studies department has been busy this week. World History students are studying different types of maps and learning about what those maps can tell us when studying human societies. AP US History classes are beginning to analyze the political events that led to the Civil War. IB Psychology students are beginning to conduct their experiments for their Internal Assessments using other Rickards High School students as participants.

Dr. P. Hall
Science- Science classes are right back to work after the well-deserved and enjoyed winter break. In Mrs. Dobb's Forensics class they are learning about fingerprints and doing labs where they analyze their own and classmates' prints. Ms. Fields' Environmental Classes will be outside counting grass. No, they are not sitting around and watching grass grow 🙂. They are learning about quadrat sampling techniques on a smaller scale and actually counting blades of grass for analysis. Ms. Fields' IB Chemistry students will be in the lab learning how to measure the rate of chemical reactions. In Dr. Hall's IB Biology classes they will be spending their weekend building a Mesocosm at home, which is due Monday. Their sustainable ecosystems will then remain sealed for 6 weeks before they open them to see how well they planned. IB students should also be writing their IAs at home, they are due February 8th. In AP Biology students are working on meiosis and drawing all the steps of meiosis as we prepare to start Genetics soon. In Ms. Mendoza's Physical Science classes she is refocusing the upperclassman by having them start their Goals Project, where they have to look at the future, think about what they want to do when they finish high school and design a game plan to get to that goal.

ALL IB Science Students- Group 4 PowerPoints are due February 5th to all of your science teachers via Canvas. The Group 4 Presentations will be February 15th at 3pm in the Auditorium and will last roughly 2 hours. Friends and Family are welcome to attend.
