Mr. Douglas Cook

Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The first part of the 2022-2023 school year has gone by quickly, and it has been an exciting time thus far. Parents have met with their children's teachers during Open House, parent conferences and workshops. Our school has completed our first quarter and are well into our second.

As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn - their presence reminds us daily, what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the continuous support from our parents in creating a healthy partnership for our students. We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, health aides, bus drivers, secretaries, nurses, lunchroom aides, support staff, therapists and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart. We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school.

In these most difficult and challenging times, often, we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure great things continue to happen in our school. Let me assure you, as the proud Principal at James S. Rickards High School, your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Most importantly, we are thankful for the parents who have kept the confidence, faith, and trust in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and-in most cases- work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children's education, safety and well-being. For this, you are greatly appreciated, and we are ever so thankful.

I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy, and relaxing Thanksgiving Holiday!

Mr. Rocky Hanna, Superintendent
Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 - 2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child's school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example - one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K - 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

Please keep in mind that the 2022 -2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey covers the time period of August 10, 2022 through the present. In order to complete the survey, please go to the following Climate Survey landing page:

In Ms. Figueroa's Pre-IB chemistry classes students are exploring the physical properties of ionic and covalent compounds in their current lab. They are observing four physical properties of nine compounds in order to get an idea of the differences as well as similarities of properties of ionic versus covalent compounds. The properties include appearance, brittleness, solubility, melting point and conductivity.

Ms. Eckerle

Social Studies Department Chair
All AP and US government students took their literacy exam on Tuesday of this week. In IB Psychology, students took on the role of the CDC and used their knowledge of neuroscience to examine how a fake virus was influencing the brain to create a fake zombie apocalypse. After their investigation they provided a press briefing to their fellow classmates about the fake virus. International relations students are investigating migration patterns around the world by researching net migration in specific countries across various regions of the world. AP US History classes are concluding Periods 1 and 2 which consist of Chapters 1-6 a time frame from 33,000 B.C.E.-1783 C.E. This week they are finishing their focus on The American Revolution and Confederation, 1774-1787 and leading into Period 3 The Constitution and The New Republic, 1787-1800.
