Thank you so much for attending our Freshman and Senior Parent Nights this week! We enjoyed sharing information with you regarding getting your student to graduation and beyond. We also thank you for your patience with the uncertainty of Hurricane Ian. While we have great sympathy for what our fellow Floridians are facing in the wake of Ian in the weeks and months ahead, we are grateful we were able to remain in school this week. Step 3: Once you have the waiver code from your counselor, log back in to your account and select the test date and location. This is when you are actually registering for the test. When you get to the payment page, put in your waiver number.
Step 4: Complete the registration by uploading your picture and printing your ticket. Make sure you know where and when you test and what you have to bring!
* Helpful hints- You are permitted 4 waivers for the ACT and 2 waivers for the SAT during your entire high school career. You must be classified as a junior or senior to utilize a waiver.
* As a Title 1 school, all Rickards students are eligible for waivers.
* Register EARLY to get the test date and location you want.
* If you need help at ANY time reach out to your counselor in GUIDANCE.
* If you register for a test, you must go and take the test. If you do not, you have wasted your waiver. In addition, you are denying another student their opportunity to test.

The PSAT will be administered to all 10th-grade students free of charge. 9th, 11th grade, and non-Rickards students wanting to take the PSAT may register to take the exam. The My College Resource Virtual College Fair that was supposed take place on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, for FLIBS member schools (this includes James S. Rickards High School) and their students has been rescheduled, due to Hurricane Ian, for Tuesday, October 11, 2022. You are invited to this event planned exclusively for Florida Pre-IB and IB students, and the link on the attached flyer is still the link you can use to join this event.
The College Fair will feature Florida State University System colleges and Private Colleges and Universities in Florida. Students and parents must register (see hot link on flyer) and will be able to attend three sessions. Colleges will be grouped in breakout rooms, so be prepared with questions. There will be no formal presentation, and representatives will know they are talking specifically to Pre-IB and IB students and parents.
My College Resource will host two sessions for parents on supporting students through the application process in separate breakout rooms.
It's never too early to gather more information about Florida colleges, so join us October 11 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Please see the attached IB Virtual College Fair Flyer for the registration link.
Our Annual IB Senior College Application Day will take place at Rickards on Thursday, October 13. IB Seniors will spend the day in the Rickards Cafeteria working on their college applications. Representatives from the Admissions and Financial Aid Offices at FAMU, FSU, and TCC will be there, along with our IB Administrative Team and Guidance Counselors, to help students and answer their questions.
Please join me in congratulating our seven National Merit Semifinalists: Abhinav Balaji, Tanmay Haldiya, Annika Lagy, Ananya Mundrathi, Sruthi Sentil, Karthik Vedula, and Eric Zeng! These outstanding scholars will now complete an extensive application that will qualify them to advance to finalist status and possibly earn $2,500 scholarships. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are proud of these IB seniors!
We also congratulate our National Merit Commended Students: Harshil Dalvaigari, Shubham Dixit, Jenna Jeon, Angela Liang, Nitishsai Nandineni, Alexander Piroth, Faith Register, Emily Taylor, and Akhil Walia! Though these students will not continue further in the National Merit Scholarship competition, they deserve commendation for being one of the 50,000 highest scorers of the approximately 1.5 million 11th-grade students who took the PSAT/NMSQT Exam last fall. We are proud of our National Merit Semifinalists and Commended Scholars for representing Rickards and the academic excellence we foster at our school!
2022 IB Diplomas and Transcripts are in: The 2022 IB Diplomas and IB Transcripts have arrived from Cardiff, Wales, UK. 2022 IB graduates or their parents can pick them up from Dr. Williams in the front office at Rickards. TITLE I Saturday Academic Camp
Parents we will begin our Saturday Academic Camp on Saturday, October, 1 2022 from 8 AM- 12 PM. To kick our program off, we will be offering Math Academic Camp. All students, enrolled in Algebra IB, Algebra I, and Geometry, are strongly advised to attend, and take advantage of this opportunity! Breakfast and snack will be provided. Breakfast will be served from 7:25 AM – 8 AM.
Additionally, we will have our Credit Recovery lab open for students who would like to work on their recovery courses.

Parents:
Personal VPNs and proxy servers typically can be used to bypass security systems that are put in place to protect LCS staff, students, and resources. We have been blocking personal VPN and Proxy use when accessing these resources for more than a year now. We are seeing an increased use of VPN/Proxies by students.
We ask that you please make sure your student knows and understands that if they are connected to a VPN/proxy service (on their cell phone, as an example) an attempt to connect to district resources (examples: Office365, Focus, Canvas, etc) their accounts will be automatically disabled by the LCS security system. At that point, they can no longer access our resources. This then requires the Techcon (Mr. Smith) to reset their password and then the block released by Leon County Schools district technology services. This can take time for this to occur as these are both manual processes (resetting the password/unblocking the student) resulting in the student not being able to access possibly needed resources for school work.

Science- This week we are focusing on Mr. Dignan's Biology classes. They have completed their baseline assessments for the End of Course Biology Exam and have been focusing on the Ecology Unit. This week students are presenting on different Biomes around the world. Next week they will be working on geochemical cycles of matter.
IB Juniors and Seniors- All IB Science students have an assembly in the Cafeteria on Friday September 30th during first and second periods to learn about their Group 4 projects. This assembly is MANDATORY. October 28th all IB Science students will be on a field trip to Lake Munson to conduct their Group 4 project.
