Hello Parents,

 

Starting next week, the CHP Champions program, will be on Canopy Oaks campus three days a week working with each grade level for a portion of our PE class.  Champions will be working in collaboration with our Canopy Oaks PE program.   Champions Program is a million dollar CHP grant that provides our students with an additional coach during PE classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the entire year. 

 

These coaches will be developing workouts suited for the lessons and units that we are teaching.  This will give all of our students an upper-hand with a few minutes carved out of each class to focus on sports specific exercises tailored to whatever sport lesson we are currently working in.  This will be part of our curriculum and will help our Cardinals on many levels. 

 

This week I will be sending a Champions In-School Program form home with all of our COE students to fill out and return back to school.  For more information about the Champions program go to www.mychampions.com  and learn about the many benefit the program gives our students.  There is a registration page that we have sent home that we would like to have as many of our Cardinals as possible fill out and hand back in.  Data is collected by CHP to use for child health studies.  This data collected is not attached to a student name and this data is important for the research that CHP provides across the county and State.  This data helps generate a base line for where children are at in their fitness levels. 

 

There are thousands of students in the Leon County Area that have participated in the champions program.  The benefits can be seen on the field and in the classroom.  Twelve years ago, I ran the Champions program here at Canopy Oaks afterschool.  We reached just a handful of students. Now we are one of a few schools that has the opportunity to integrate this into our PE program during school day and reach every one of  our students.
