Mr. Douglas Cook

Principal
Students are now able to access their class schedules in FOCUS. It is important that you are able to access your FOCUS account. If you have forgotten your password, your username, or simply cannot log into FOCUS through the Classlink icon on the District website or the JSRHS website, please email your counselor at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or call the school. Students must be able to access their FOCUS account.

We are working around the clock to provide the safest learning environment possible for our students, teachers and staff. There is a lot of information that can be found on our school's website. Stay informed with what happening at Rickards High School. If you have not done so already, please take a few minutes to sign up for our weekly listserv by visiting [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> . If you have additional questions, please contact the school 850-414-5500.

Dr. Deborah Barnes

Assistant Principal for Curriculum
Students and parents should be able to view academic information in FOCUS now. Please note, due to limited space and class capacity, schedule changes will not be honored. Parents and students, there will be future changes that are inevitable, as a result of test scores and student's required courses needed for graduation. Therefore, your child's schedule may change to ensure academic success. All schedules are reviewed by the student's counselor, for accuracy and approval. Parents, guardians, and students, please be assured, we are working endlessly to review for consideration, every student's course request and/or correction form that was submitted prior to the deadline. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact your child's Guidance Counselor. We truly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we continue to strive for academic excellence at Rickards High School. Welcome to our 2022-23 School year.

May 2022 IB Exam Session Highlights: Our 2021-2022 IB seniors and juniors did very well this past year in their overall IB Exam results. 38 out of 56 (68%) of our IB Diploma Candidates (Class of 2022 IB Diploma Program Seniors) earned an IB Diploma. Our overall IB Exam pass rate (4 or higher out of a possible 7) for all 135 students who took IB Exams was even better, at 78%. Additionally, one of our Class of 2022 IB Graduates scored 44 out of a possible 45 points on his IB Exams - the highest individual point total for a Rickards IB graduate!

2022 IB Diplomas and Transcripts are in: The 2022 IB Diplomas and IB Transcripts just arrived from Cardiff, Wales, UK yesterday. 2022 IB graduates or their parents can pick them up from Dr. Williams in the front office at Rickards. Please email or call ahead so Dr. Williams can leave your IB Diploma and/or IB Transcript at the front office for you, in case he is not available when you come to campus.

PSAT Day at James S. Rickards High School

The PSAT/NMSQT (or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a preliminary version of the SAT. Not only does the PSAT help prepare students to take the SAT or ACT, a great score on the PSAT can also open the door to National Merit Scholarships and other awards. The PSAT will be administered to all 10th-grade students free of charge. 9th, 11th grade, and non-Rickards students wanting to take the PSAT may register to take the exam. The cost of the exam is $18.00. Registration and payment for the exam can be completed through our e-funds system. 10th grade students are automatically registered for this test. Registration is September 1 thru September 30. Study packets for sophomores will be distributed in their English class. Study packets for other students may be picked up in the main office. Students are to bring # 2 pencils and an approved calculator (listed in practice book).

Dr. Hall
Science Department
Students across science courses have been focusing on Lab Safety and Classroom Policies this past week. Many science classes have sent home paperwork, including Lab Safety Contracts and Cell Phone Policy Contracts, for parents to sign and be returned to the teacher. Please check with your students if you have not received any paperwork for their science class. Also, some science classes require a lab fee. That fee can be paid online or to the teacher. If the teacher has a lab fee that would have been conveyed in their syllabus. If you would like to make an additional donation to a science classroom, we are always in need of facial tissue and paper towels. We look forward to a safe and productive year on Science Island!

Ms. Eckerle
Social Studies Department
This week we have administered benchmark pretests for our subject areas so we can cater our lessons to our students' needs. During this first full week of school students have already begun learning about a variety of things including the Roman Empire, psychological research methods, and the founding of the New World!
