Good afternoon, Yellow Jackets!

Today, we held our second “Fresh Friday.”   It is enjoyable to watch our students learn with hands on experiences!  Next week, we kick off our first Accelerated Reader (AR) principal’s challenge.  Classes will receive class prizes and activities based on their successful completion of these challenges throughout the school year.  From 11/8-11/19, every student in a class must earn at least one AR point, with class totals in grades 1-2 reaching 20 points and classes in grades 3-5 earning 25 points.  The class challenge for this time period is to read a book on gratitude and thanks.  Kindergarten will have unique principal challenges, as well.  These will be announced directly by the teachers.  Please encourage your student to read and participate in these challenges and let your teacher know if you have any questions on how to participate.

This year, the Salvation Army is organizing the Project Joy Food Drive from 11/8-11/12.  They have placed a drop-box in the front office for donations.  Please consider donating boxed or canned food items as well as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.  These donations will help local families during the holiday season.

We wish our Math Club good luck as their competition season begins this Saturday at Swift Creek.  They have worked incredibly hard in preparation of this event and we are very proud of them!  As a reminder all Leon County Schools will be closed on Thursday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day.  Our apparel fundraiser continues next week, with orders and payments due to the school no later than November 18th

In an effort to keep students safe at dismissal, we ask all families to respect the cutoff times for transportation changes and early pickup.  With a bulk of our support staff working with students on a daily basis, and the remainder helping with end of the day preparations, it is difficult to make exceptions to these deadline.  We ask that all families complete transportation changes through [log in to unmask] before 2:00 and early pickups be completed by 2:15.  After these times, we cannot guarantee the availability of staff to meet requests.

Have a great weekend!
