A few announcements to share! J

 

v  Calling all Moms & Sons!!! Our annual Mother & Son Breakfast is next Friday, February 24th from 8-9:15 am in the media center.  Enjoy a yummy breakfast, coffee, photo booth and lots of fun! v  Magnet recruiting is in full swing and our Cubs have done a wonderful job of welcoming visitors and helping shadow students feel excited about the transition to middle school.  A huge shout out to our BETA students, teachers and staff for all they do to make show cases, tours, shadow days and magnet events so much fun and informative for prospective parents and students! J  Thank you all!

 

v  Our science students recently came away with some fantastic awards:

o   Science fair Winners:

§  Ethan Glover placed 2nd in Cellular & Molecular Biochemistry 

§  Kennedi Hills placed 3rd in Earth & Environmental Sciences

§  Phillip Byrd placed 1st in Microbiology

§  Jane Cohen placed 2nd in Physics & Astronomy

§  Indya Lincicome placed 1st in Plant Sciences

§  *The Association for Women Geoscientists presents a certificate to a female student presenting an outstanding exhibit in the field of Geosciences, that award went to Kennedi Hills for her work in soil erosion.

§  *The Office of Naval Research offers a certificate to an outstanding exhibit in the area of physical science that has military implications, that award went to Jane Cohen for her work with laser distortion in water. 

§  *Each year the judges choose 15 projects to represent Leon County at the State level in Lakeland, Florida in March.  These 15 are from both the Junior (middle school) and Senior (high school) divisions.  This year, 2 of those 15 are from Cobb!  Phillip Byrd and Indya Lincicome will be moving on to the state competition! 

§  *In addition to being chosen for State, Phillip Byrd was recognized for his outstanding accomplishments in the field of Biological Science.  His project was chosen as the overall winner (even above the high school students) of the fair and awarded an extra $100.
