FCAT Writing for 8th Grade Students Tuesday, February 28th
All 8th graders need to be in class no shadowing today
8th Graders will be taking the FCAT Writing test on Tuesday.  Please read the following information and share with your child.  We are announcing this everyday in the morning and afternoon so that all students are aware of the state guidelines for test taking.

Electronic Devices Policy—If students are found with ANY electronic devices during testing, even if they are turned off, their tests will be invalidated. The best practice would be for students to leave devices at home or in their lockers on the day of testing. For those students who do bring them to school, the school will have students turn off their cell phones or any other electronic device, collect and secure them.

Leaving Campus—If students leave campus before completing the test (for lunch, an appointment, or illness, etc.), they WILL NOT be allowed to complete the test. No exceptions will be made once the student leaves the school’s campus.

Student Pledge—Students will be asked to sign a pledge prior to testing indicating that they will not give or receive unauthorized help during the test. If students are caught cheating or irregular answer patterns are detected during scoring, their tests will be invalidated.

Important Message for Parents of Sixth Grade Students:  Don’t Wait – Immunize Now!
In addition to all other required school immunizations, children entering seventh grade must have on file at school documentation of one dose of tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis vaccine (Tdap).  The Tdap vaccine is typically given at 11 – 12 years of age.    If your child has not yet received the Tdap vaccine, please have your child immunized as soon as possible and return the  necessary documentation – the Florida Certification of Immunization (DH 680 form) -- to your child’s school.  If your child already received the Tdap vaccine, please bring the new DH 680 form to your child’s school as soon as possible.
Immunizations needed for school attendance may be received from your child’s private doctor or free of charge at the Leon County Health Department.  During the winter holidays from school, the Leon County Health Department will be providing two special immunization clinics targeting preteens needing immunizations for 7th grade entry.  Please call the Leon County Health Department at (850) 606-8020 to schedule an appointment for one of the special clinics which will take place at the Roberts & Stevens Clinic, 1515 Old Bainbridge Road.
All children receiving immunizations through the Health Department must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  When taking your child for immunizations, please bring a copy of your child’s complete immunization record.

Save Your Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Griffin students and staff have been donating pop tabs to the Tallahassee Ronald McDonald House for several years.  This is an easy way to contribute to a worthy charity.  Save your tabs and send them to the Griffin front office – we have a collection jar.  The following information is taken from their website:   The Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program was established in 1987 by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Ronald McDonald House community.  To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.  Like many Ronald McDonald Houses, Tallahassee's House works with a local recycling plant to receive money for collecting tabs from aluminum cans - including those from soda, vegetables, soup and pet food cans.
