The Big Event
On Saturday March 24th, SAIL held a landscaping work day in coordination with local universities' one day service event called, "The Big Event". Eight volunteers from FAMU as well as students and staff from SAIL really "dug" in to get the job done.
The group beautified campus by preparing beds, distributing mulch, and installing over 60 plants! The main targets of the effort were the bed on the back side of the band shell facing Jackson Bluff Road and the bed outside of the media center. Volunteer Danielle Taylor, the schools Chemistry and Zoology teacher was excited about many native plants which will attract butterflies and hummingbirds to the campus. Media Specialist and volunteer, Emily expressed delight in having a butterfly garden right outside her door.
Thanks to all who contributed their labor, for the $300 dollar donation from the PTSO which covered plants, and to professional landscaper and SAIL grad, Seth Dunaway for his layout designs and advice.
Special thanks to Charles Robshaw, project leader and staff and student volunteers: Tiffany and Jahsai W., Emily B., Danielle T., Charles and Ann R. Solomon, Tony, Valerie, Ben G, T'Mayah S., Dade J.
