I'm sure most of you saw that SAIL, along with Chiles, Leon and Lincoln made a "B" instead of an "A" in this year's school grade. Naturally, we were disappointed.
SAIL earned 430 points, far above the 410 total points required to have an A . (The only school higher was Chiles with 434 points.) In SAIL's case, we met all of the criteria for making an A except that 50% of our lowest 25th percentile were required to make learning gains in reading and only 48% did so. For SAIL, that was probably the difference of 1 or 2 questions for 1 or 2 students! (This tells you how silly the whole grading system is!) The state sure saved a lot of money though, since last year 16% of the high schools earned an "A" and this year only 10% did (35 high schools). No one quite understands why.

Anyway, we're very proud of our FCAT scores this year. We exceeded district and state averages in every area. When compared to the other local high schools, looking at all curriculum groups including ESE students:

SAIL had the highest 10th grade Science scores in the district!
SAIL had the highest 10th grade Reading scores in the district!
SAIL had the 2nd highest 9th grade Reading gain scores in the district!
SAIL had the 2nd highest 10th grade Reading gain scores in the district!
SAIL had the highest 9th grade Math gain scores in the district!
SAIL had the 2nd highest 10th grade Math gain scores in the district!

Additionally, of our 10th graders, 81% passed FCAT Reading on the 1st try and 94% passed FCAT Math on their 1st try. We're actually thrilled with our results and thought you'd like to know the facts. Have a great summer!
