NO TOYS AT SCHOOL
This is the time of year when children seem to want to bring toys to
school. The students have been reminded that if they bring toys to school,
the toys must remain with the principal until a parent comes in to pick up
the toy. Please help your child remember that toys of any kind should not
be brought to school. If a student has a toy that resembles a weapon, it
is an automatic suspension from school.

Transportation

If you change how your children goes home,
PLEASE send the teacher a note.
Medication
The Leon County School Board has a strict policy in regards to
administering medicine to students. Students are not to bring prescription
or non-prescription medicine to school. If your child has medication that
needs to be taken during school hours, a Medication Permission Form must
be completed by a parent or guardian identifying the medication
(Amoxicillin, Ritalin, etc.) and indicating the time it is to be taken.
Forms are available in the school office. Medication is administered ONLY
by the administrative staff or designee. All medicine is kept locked in the
school’s clinic. All medication must come in original containers clearly
labeled with child’s name and dosage. (Ask pharmacist to provide an extra
bottle.) No permission to administer medication will be granted by phone,
as per school board policy.

If your child becomes ill or is seriously injured at school, we will
contact you immediately providing we have accurate and operable
information. Please keep 2 current phone numbers on file in the office.
Let the office know immediately if these numbers should change. Please
remember, we cannot keep ill children at school. Students should be fever
free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Visitors on Campus
To visit on campus, you will need to sign in and get a Visitor Badge any
time you are on campus.
This is a safety precaution and we appreciate your help with this
procedure. We have a NO
Drop-In Policy at Ruediger Elementary, please check with the classroom
teacher BEFORE stopping
by to visit the classroom. We are trying hard to have as few interruptions
to the instructional
program, as possible. A teacher stopping a lesson even for a few minutes
to assist or answer
a parent’s question, disrupts the lesson and takes away precious learning
time. If you would like to
observe or volunteer in the class, just let the teacher know to expect
you. This will help the teacher
plan and keep those interruptions down.

RUEDIGER ARRIVAL / DISMISSAL SAFETY
PROCEDURES

Ruediger has the V-soft system which tracks
visitors, students, faculty, contractors, volunteers at the school;
providing a safer more monitored environment. All visitors on campus check-
in at the front office where they will be asked to present their valid
driver’s license.
Arrival
The earliest children may be dropped off is 7:05 a.m. Supervision starts at
7:05 a.m.at the Tharpe Street entrance.

At 7:15, students are released from the Tharpe Street entrance to walk to
the following areas:
Cafeteria Grades K-1 and those eating breakfast
Media Center Grades K-5
Technology Lab Grade K-5
Playground Areas Pre-K, K-1, 2-3, and 4-5

Locked Gates classrooms and front and side gates are locked when the rings
at 7:50.
This is a safety feature. All teachers and staff have gate keys, as well
as, Maintenance, Police and Fire Department. Our goal is to keep our
students safe! Please help by reading and following the arrival and
dismissal procedures.
Walking a Student to
Class
                                                         For safety there
is NO drop off or pick-up in the Tenth Avenue parking lot. If parents
would like to walk their child to class, they are asked to park in the
Tenth Avenue lot and walk their child across the parking
lot.

Dismissal

Dismissal begins at 2:10. There is a staggered dismissal process to
promote an orderly student dismissal process (bus, car, walkers, after
school, camp oasis).
Parents are asked to meet students by the cafeteria walkway at the Tenth
Avenue entrance.
Parents are asked to send a note if they wish their child to go home a
different
way.
There are 3 Dismissal Sites:
Car dropped off or picked-up is done at the Tharpe Street entrance.
Walkers or bike riders enter and exit at Tenth Avenue entrance, using the
crosswalk and sidewalk.
Parents on campus, when the bell rings, may wait by the cafeteria to pick
up their child. However, if a parent is not waiting for the student, the
student will be sent to the Tharpe Street entrance where there is adult
supervision. For safety there is NO drop off or pick-up in the Tenth Avenue
parking lot. A parent must walk their child across the parking lot.
Bus
Bus riders enter and exit at the side entrance.
