Addressing the
Obesity/Overweight Issue
in Youth: A Workshop
Thursday & Friday, June 16 & 17, 2005

Turnbull Conference Center
Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida
About the workshop:
This two-day program is designed to provide
professionals who work with youth information on
nutrition and physical activity. Participants will review
the latest evidence-based information, including the
2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Speakers include faculty from Florida State University’s
Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences and
professionals in the &#64257;eld.
Workshop Outcomes
• Basic knowledge of nutrition and physical activity to provide accurate
health messages to impact youth
• Educational strategies for implementing health messages with youth,
including implications for families
• Information on how educational strategies meet Sunshine State Standards
and can be used in FCAT preparation
• Information on how educational strategies can be used in non-formal,
community settings
• Guidelines for measuring results
• A copy of the revised Nutrition Education Initiative Resource Guide to
take home
