A MESSAGE FROM MRS. YOUNGBLOOD
Our Fall Festival was a tremendous success! We couldn’t have done it
without the help of so many parents! I want to send a heartfelt thank you
to Stacie King, Sandra Rowe, Carol Scott, Beth Fogler, and Mary Gavalas for
all their hard work in coordinating the event. I also want to thank
Stanley Sims for cooking hundreds of hot dogs and hamburgers for us
throughout the event and David Messler for serving as our DJ and keeping us
entertained throughout the day. This was a wonderful event for our
children and their families!
I encourage all parents to register now for the Parent Workshops which will
be held on November 4. Registration information was sent home this week.
In order to plan appropriately for the number of parents planning to
attend, it is important that registration forms be returned by October 29.
Please don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about what your child is
doing at school and how you can support your child at home

RED RIBBON WEEK
Our school will be celebrating RED RIBBON WEEK during the week of October

Tuesday – Shade Out Drugs
Wednesday – Put a Cap on Drugs
Thursday – Wear Red
Friday – Spirit Day
On October 29 we will culminate Red Ribbon Week with an assembly.

that day.

THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in our Media Center beginning on
Monday, November 15, and continuing through Friday, November 19. Flyers
highlighting some of the books to be offered will be sent home in a few
weeks. The Book Fair will be open each day during school for children to
come and purchase books. On Tuesday, November 16, we will have “Donuts for
Dads”. On that day, the Book Fair will open at 7:00 AM for dads to bring
their children to the Book Fair. They will enjoy donuts, juice, and coffee
while making book selections. In addition, the Book Fair will be open
until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, for families to come and shop.
Thank you in advance for your support of our Book Fair. Proceeds are used
to purchase additional books for the Media Center.

PARENT WORKSHOPS – NOVEMBER 4
It is time to pre-register for the Parent Workshops which will be held on
November 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. All registration forms should be returned
to the school by October 29. Childcare will be provided for those who have
indicated a need on their registration forms. Please plan to attend this
informative event. You won’t want to miss it!

MUSIC/ART NEWS
Thank you to all who supported our booth at the Fall Festival. We are once
again having our Little Caesars Pizza Drive. Little Caesars Pizza will
donate part of the proceeds to the art/music department for all pizza kits
sold. Order forms were sent home earlier this week. Please return your
order with the money to Mrs. Hull or Mrs. Benners by Friday, October 22.
The pick up date will be on Friday, October 29, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the
music room. What a great and easy idea for Halloween dinner. We are also
selling Chick-Fil-A cow calendars for 2005. These calendars have a lot of
great coupons and cost only $5.00.

MUSIC NOTES FROM MRS. HULL
The kindergarten classes will be performing in a Thanksgiving play on
Monday, November 22, at 8:30 AM in the cafeteria. Our first and fifth
grade students will be performing in our annual Winter Program on Thursday,
December 9, at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.

ARE YOU LOOKING TO GET IN SHAPE?
Mr. Mosier, one of our PE teachers, will be training students on their
total body development. The sessions will be designed to increase energy,
further range of motion, improve body composition, along with information
on nutrition and diet. This well-balanced program will be in a positive
atmosphere that will enhance self-esteem. If you are interested in getting
your child involved, contact Mr. Mosier at 488-0923 or by email at

STAY HEALTHY DURING FLU SEASON
By now, most everyone is aware of the shortage of this year’s flu vaccine.
Only those people considered in high risk will be eligible to receive the
vaccine. Check with your health care provider if you have any questions
about receiving the flu vaccine.
You can stay healthy during flu season without getting a flu shot by
following the guidelines listed below. These guidelines come from Ann
Waltz, RN, the Immunization Specialist for the Leon County Health
Department:
• Frequently wash your hands
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you have a cold, then
throw it away and wash your hands
• Don’t go to work or school if you are sick
• Avoid contact with the ill if you are in a high risk group
• Exercise, get 8 hours of sleep per night, stay hydrated, and don’t
smoke
In an attempt to decrease the spread of flu and other communicable diseases
in the school setting, please adhere to the following guidelines:
• If your child complains of flu-like symptoms, such as body aches,
headache, chronic cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, please keep your
child out of school. If your child does not feel well, he/she is not able
to learn, and other children may become sick.
• Children must be fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours, and not
taking anti-fever medicines such as Tylenol or Advil.
• Please update emergency contact numbers at your child’s school if
you have moved or changed phone numbers. It is very important to reach a
responsible adult in the event of an accident or illness.
• Do not send your child to school with medication. Parents must
bring any medication to school and complete a Medication Permission Form.
This includes medicines such as cough drops and throat lozenges.

A SALUTE FROM ROBERTS
