Dear Nims Trojans,

This week was the start of FCAT testing. This week our students completed
the FCAT Reading and Math SSS portion of the tests. It was a great
testing week as our students were calm, prepared and ready to show what
they have learned so far this year. We know we are going to have
wonderful test scores from our students as their test motto was “Our
attitudes will determine our altitudes” and the attitudes were wonderful!
Next week our 8th graders will take the FCAT Science portion on Monday and
the entire student body will take the FCAT NRT on Tuesday.

Spring sports season has started. If your child is interested in
playing Girls’ Softball, Coed Track Team or Coed Golf, they will need to
have a completed Activity Physical of file (dated after May 15, 2005) and
a Permission Activity Form. No forms, no sports. They must also have a
2.0 grade point average.

The end of the year is fast approaching, can you believe it? Many
activities will be taking place and it is very important that you read all
information coming home. If you do not receive a newsletter, please ask
your child where it is.

Black History Month ended with a bang. On Thursday, February
23rd, our young men were fortunate to have as guest speaker the Honorable
Mayor John Marks and Commissioner Andrew Gillum at their monthly “Young
Men’s Forum”. These types of activities will be a monthly occurrence with
many great speakers coming to talk to our young men. The afternoon was
full of performances by several dance groups from FAMU and our students
were inspired with a rousing speech by FAMU Student Body President Ramon
Alexander, who challenged our students to be the best that they can be.

Congrats to our Math Counts Team as they competed in a MathCounts
competition on Saturday, February 25th with other middle school teams from
Leon and Wakulla Counties. Our students represented us well, special
thank you’s go to their Coach Kerris Satchell who worked hard preparing
these young men and women.

As always, if I can be of service to you in the future, please do
not hesitate to contact me.

Your Proud Principal,

Pamela Brice Hayman
