The Leon County Schools district auditor, Ms. Glenda Ostrander, was a
special guest speaker at the February 4th HRES PTO Board meeting. She
was invited to provide information to the Board after reviewing the
organization's revised Bylaws. Her response was that she was "very
pleased" with the revised bylaws overall. She stated that the bylaws
"took into account a lot of control, particularly financial controls".

Ms. Ostrander specifically commended the Board for "forethought in
putting controls over cash, installing a safe to safeguard funds, and
providing for separation of financial duties." She stated that an area
that needed more attention was making sure paperwork that was required
by Federal and State was filed.

She said that the Leon County School District was currently working on a
checklist for all schools regarding such safeguards. She also stated
that HRES PTO would be "well advised to have a financial audit by a
CPA."

The Board appreciates Ms. Ostrander's time and patience in answering
their many questions during the meeting. The Board will continue to
work on the bylaws at the March meeting, tonight at 7:00pm in the Media
Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
