All schools in Leon County have been asked to be particularly diligent
regarding safety and security on campus. Because of this, teachers have
been directed to keep their classroom doors locked whenever they are not
in the room, and are encouraged to keep them locked at all times. Those
inside can always exit easily, but this does assure that those who enter
are known.

Please remember that all school visitors, including parents, must check
in with the front office and receive a name tag before going into the
classrooms, media center, or cafeteria. If you regularly volunteer,
please always wear your volunteer badge when you're on campus.

No child may be dismissed to a parent early unless the child is signed
out through the office. Parents will wait in the office for the child
to come to meet them.

We are asking parents who arrive early for dismissal to wait at the
front of the school for their children, instead of by the classroom
doors. Having children removed from the class when the teacher is
focusing on lining her students up for dismissal poses a security risk.
Also, do not try to talk with the teacher at this time of day, since his
or her attention needs to be on the safety of the students. Use email
for quick questions.

Remember that all dropping off or picking up of children must be done at
the front of the school. Do not use the Meridian Road entrance, unless
your child is enrolled in the Before or After School Program and it is
before 8:00am or after 4:00pm. If you bring your child after 8:00 for
Before School be sure to use the Meadow Ridge Drive entrance. State law
prohibits children who ride in private vehicles from being dropped off
or picked up in the bus loop area.

If you come upon a locked door, or if a staff member asks you to sign in
at the office, please do not feel any less welcome. This is being done
only for the safety and protection of our children.
