Scholarships and Programs
(Applications are available in the Guidance Office)

***Remember…students should not pay ANY money to receive help with locating
scholarships.  DO NOT give money to agencies that guarantee scholarship
prizes!***

Seniors – let me know where you have been accepted!  We will have a display
titled, “ACCEPTANCES 2006” in the Guidance Office to show off our seniors!

Career Explorations Workshop – FSU will be hosting a Career Explorations
Workshop for high school students.  The workshop will be six weeks long and
take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  If you would be
interested in attending, contact Mrs. Rudd in Guidance.

Seniors can now apply for Bright Futures and other types of Florida
Financial Aid.  See the following directions for assistance.
1. Go to www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org.

2. Click on State Grants, Scholarships, and Applications (on the left).

3. Click on the third bullet on the left (Apply Online: Initial
Student).

4. Read the important information they have listed in the six
categories.

5. Click on Proceed to Application.

6. Read and answer EVERYTHING!

7. Make sure you print a copy of your application.

**Everyone (even if you have taken Dual Enrollment) needs to choose “First
Time College Freshman” when asked what they will be classified as in Fall,
2006.

**DO NOT enter a college GPA even if you have taken Dual Enrollment classes.

The FAFSA can now be completed.  Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov for an online
application.

Virginia School of the Arts – There will be auditions in various cities.
Come to Guidance if you are interested.

SAT Prep Workshop (provided by FAMU Upward Bound) -
When: Saturdays 9am – 1pm and Sundays 2pm – 6pm.
Workshops will be held 2/11 and 2/12.
   2/25 and 2/26
   3/4 and 3/5.
The cost is $35 per student.

The Padgett Foundation Scholarship Program – Student have an opportunity to
earn $500 - $1,000.  Students must be a senior whose parent or guardian is
a small business owner.  Applications are available at
www.SmallBizPros.com.  Applications are due March 1st and business
verifications must be requested by Feb. 15th.

2006 NCBM Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is for seniors who a 2.7
GPA.  Applications are available from Guidance.

Gwen Cherry Scholarship Award – Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to
a student with a 2.5 GPA.  Student must plan to attend FAMU, FSU, or TCC.

Guardian’s Girls Going Places – This scholarship is for girls between 12
and 18 years of age.  Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 - $10,000.
Must be nominated.  Visit girlsgoingplaces.com for additional information.

Capital Area Gator Club (Stephen C. O’Connell Leadership Scholarship) –
Scholarships (starting at $1,000) are available to seniors going to UF.
Applications are available at www.capitalareagatorclub.com.

American Legion – 2006 National High School Oratorical Contest –
Scholarships range from $100 - $18,000.  More information can be found at
www.floridalegion.org.

Summer Playground Program – City of Tallahassee is currently taking
applications for the program which runs from June 5th – July 28th.
Applications are due 2/28.

2006 Eagle Preview – This event will take place from 8:30 am – 10:30 am in
the TCC Student Ballroom.

FAPSC Scholarship Program (Keiser College) – Keiser College (Tallahassee)
is offering a free tuition scholarship for an Associate of Science Degree
in Computer Graphics and Design.  Applicants must be seniors with a 2.0
GPA.  Call Brad at 906-9494 if you are interested.  FAPSC also offers
scholarships to other schools and programs.  Visit www.FAPSC.org for
additional information.

Marine Corps Scholarship – Scholarships are available to son/daughters or
grandchildren of a Marine.  Applicants must be a senior with a 2.0 GPA.

Kaplan/Newsweek “My Turn” Essay Competition – This competition is open to
any high school student.  Awards will range from $1,000 - $5,000.  More

Western Carolina University – Upward Bound Math and Science Regional
Center’s LEADERS Summer Program – This program is for current 9th through
11th graders and lasts from June 6th – July 22nd.  More information can be

American Legion Scholarships
General – Student must be a senior and a direct descendant of a Legion
member.  Applications are available at www.floridslegion.org.
Eagle Scout of the Year – Must have earned Eagle Award.
JROTC Cadet of the Year – Student must be a senior and a member of the
JROTC.  Only 1 per school accepted.

Access to Education Scholarships – Students have an opportunity to earn a
renewable $1,500 scholarship.  Applications can be found at
www.usafunds.org.  Select “Scholarship Information” from the “express
Links” Menu.

Southern Scholarship Foundation – This program offers rent-free scholarship
housing to students attending: FSU, UF, FAMU, BCC, FGCU (women only).
Students must have a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available at

Words of Wisdom Essay Contest – This contest is for seniors who are going
to a Historically Black College or University.  Applicants must write a 600-
800 word essay on “What words of wisdom will you pass on to those who come
after you?”  Applications and rules are available at

SAMMY 2006 Award Program – This scholarship is for outstanding scholar
athletes in 12th grade.  Applications and more information is available at

United Daughters of the Confederacy – There are three scholarships
available to students who are descendants of Confederacy Soldiers or
Sailors.  One scholarship has a deadline of 2/15 and the other two are due
5/1.

2006 Eagle Preview Dates
Thursday, 5/11/06 from 5:30pm – 8pm.
This even will be held on TCC’s campus.  Two $500 book scholarships will be
given away.

High School Volunteers Needed¬ – The Family Learning Center needs high
school students to help with tutoring programs.  This is a great
