Scholarships and Programs
(Applications are available in the Guidance Office)

***Remember…students should not pay ANY money to receive help with locating
scholarships.  DO NOT give money to agencies that guarantee scholarship
prizes!***

Seniors – let me know where you have been accepted!  We will have a display
titled, “ACCEPTANCES 2006” in the Guidance Office to show off our seniors!

Career Explorations Workshop – FSU will be hosting a Career Explorations
Workshop for high school students.  The workshop will be six weeks long and
take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  If you would be
interested in attending, contact Mrs. Rudd in Guidance.

Seniors can now apply for Bright Futures and other types of Florida
Financial Aid.  See the following directions for assistance.
1. Go to www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org.

2. Click on State Grants, Scholarships, and Applications (on the left).

3. Click on the third bullet on the left (Apply Online: Initial
Student).

4. Read the important information they have listed in the six
categories.

5. Click on Proceed to Application.

6. Read and answer EVERYTHING!

7. Make sure you print a copy of your application.

**Everyone (even if you have taken Dual Enrollment) needs to choose “First
Time College Freshman” when asked what they will be classified as in Fall,
2006.

**DO NOT enter a college GPA even if you have taken Dual Enrollment classes.

Virginia School of the Arts – There will be auditions in various cities.
Come to Guidance if you are interested.

Scholastic Scholarship Contest – Awards range from $200 - $15,000 and is
open to 11th and 12th grade students.  More information is available at

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation – Applications are available at
www.NFIB.com/YEF.  Awards are $1,000 and available to seniors only.

Wilkes Honors College at FAU – FAU will be hosting a summer institute for
rising 11th and 12th grade students.  More information is available at

FSU Young Scholars Program (YSP) – FSU hosts a residential summer science
and math experience for outstanding students.  Current 10th and 11th grade
students are eligible.  More information and applications can be found at

Give Kids A Chance – There are $1,000 scholarships available to seniors who
have financial need.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA.

FCGU Foundation Scholarship – Many scholarships are available to FGCU
students.  Applications are available at

Freedom Scholarship – Students can win a $2,500 scholarship for writing an
essay on, “The Bill of Rights: What they mean to me as an American.”  This
contest is for 11th and 12th grade students.

Wandretia Warren Scholarship (Delta Sigma Theta) – This $1,000 scholarship
is available to a female, African-American senior.  Student must have a 3.0
GPA.

Carol Z. Bellamy Young Women in Public Affairs Award (Zonta International) –
 This scholarship is for women aged 16 – 20 years old.  Awards range from
$100 - $1,000.  Applications are available at www.zonta-tallahassee.org.

FSU College of Medicine – Rural Introduction to Pre-medical Education
(RIPE) Summer Programs – This program is for current 10th and 11th grade
students who are interested in pursuing a health or medical career.  The
program lasts from June 3rd – 17th.

FAMU’s Spring Preview – FAMU’s Spring Preview will be held on this date for
any interested juniors or seniors.  See Mrs. Rudd for additional
information.

Florida Association of Realtors – This is a scholarship for seniors.
Awards range from $500 - $5,000.  Additional information is available at

Miss Florida Teen America Scholarship Pageant – Girls aged 14-18 have a
chance to win $50,000 in scholarship money.  More information is available

Ayn Rand Essay Contest – 9th and 10th grade students have an opportunity to
win scholarship money by reading and writing an essay on “Anthem.”

FSCA Senior Scholarship – Seniors have an opportunity to win a $500
scholarship for writing a 500 word essay that describes how a school
counselor or counseling program has assisted an area of life.

Progression Through Achievement – FSU Chapter of Progressive Black Men Book
Stipend – A $500 book stipend is available to a first time in college
minority male who plans to attend FSU.

Best and Brightest – This scholarship is for 12th grade students in Leon
County.  Awards range from $250 - $1000.  Students can apply for
scholarships in the following 15 categories: Art, Athletics, Business,
Career Technical, Drama/Theater Productions, English and Language Arts,
Foreign Language, Journalism/Media Production, Leadership, Mathematics,
Music, Public Speaking, Science, Social Studies, and Technology.

Chi Upsilon Omega Chapter 2006 Scholarship – This scholarship is for
seniors with at least an unweighted GPA of 2.75.  Winners will receive
$1,000 per year for four years.

Hitachi Foundation Youth Community Service Awards – This scholarship is for
seniors and is worth $5,000.  Students must be nominated.  Visit

FACTS.org ePEP Regional Training Sessions – Learn more about Florida’s
student advising web site, create your own high school planner, and check
grades, college admission requirements, and Bright Futures eligibility all
online.  This training will take place at TCC.

Any Rand Essay Contest – 11th and 12th grade students have an opportunity
to win scholarship money by reading and writing an essay on “The
Fountainhead.”

United Daughters of the Confederacy – There are three scholarships
available to students who are descendants of Confederacy Soldiers or
Sailors.  One scholarship has a deadline of 2/15 and the other two are due
5/1.

2006 Eagle Preview Dates
Thursday, 5/11/06 from 5:30pm – 8pm.
This even will be held on TCC’s campus.  Two $500 book scholarships will be
given away.

High School Volunteers Needed¬ – The Family Learning Center needs high
school students to help with tutoring programs.  This is a great
opportunity to earn community service hours.  Come to Guidance for more
