5/13/05 Pre-College Summer @ Brown – Brown University is offering summer
programs for high school students.  More information is available at
www.brown.edu/summer.

5/13/05 TCC Board of Trustees – TCC is awarding 3 scholarships worth 2
years of tuition to students with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Students must
contribute 3 hours per week to TCC’s Peer Support Center.  See Mrs. Rudd if
you are interested.

5/13/05 Tallahassee Area Coalition Center of Excellence National Achievers
Society – African American and other historically advantaged students in
grades 3 through 11 are eligible.  Students must have a minimum of 2 A’s
and no C’s (unless C’s are in advanced/honors classes).  There is a $100
fee to be a part of NAS.

5/14/05 2005 Youth Mission Exploration
This program is for students aged 14-21.  It is from 10 am-2 pm at the
Challenger Learning Center (200 S. Duval St.).  Take advantage of this
opportunity to meet employers, college and military recruiters.  Career
seminars are at 11 am and 1 pm.  Door prizes awarded hourly.  Bring lots of
resumes

5/15/05 2005-06 Scobee Scholarships – This scholarship is for gifted
students who intend to pursue college studies in the areas of math,
science, or technology.  A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one female
and one male student.  Applicants must be in the 11th grade.

5/15/05 Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation – Scholarships
($1000 - $6000) are available to a student who has taken the SAT or ACT.

5/15/05 Theodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship Foundation, Inc. -
Scholarship aid is available for disabled students to attend college in the
Florida State University System.  Applications are available at

5/20/05 DAR Florida State Scholarship – A $500 scholarship is available to
a Florida member continuing their education or a child/grandchild of a
Florida DAR member.

5/30/05 United States Army Reserve/National Scholar Athlete Program – This
award is for 1 male and 1 female student.  Students must excel in the
classroom and on the athletic field.

5/31/05 UNCF/JP Morgan Chase Bank – The United Negro College Fund is
awarding full scholarships to UNCF member colleges/universities.  Students
must have a 3.0.  Participating schools, applications, and more information

5/31/05 Junior Camp Assistant Program at The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and
Science – The Mary Brogan Museum is looking for volunteers to help with

5/05 Bridges testGear for PSAT – A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to
the student who uses this test prep program the most.    Students need to

6/05 The Princeton Review College Discovery Experience – Princeton
Review offers many college prep summer programs (including a SAT prep
program at various college campuses.  Visit www.summerfun.com.

6/15/05 Barbara L. Frye Scholarships - $2,000 scholarships are available to
seniors (or current college students) who are planning to pursue a career
in journalism.

6/17/05 ERCA – Community Contribution Scholarships – There are scholarships
worth $1,000 available to students who have made a difference in their
communities and intend to continue this commitment as they further their

 Service Leadership Ambassador Camp – Participants will earn 40
hours of community service through this camp.  The cost is $45, which
includes lunch, materials, and a t-shirt.  For registration and more

6/30/05 Suave and Dollar General Education Essay Contest – Students can
earn between $500 - $10,000 for buying Suave products at Dollar General

available to motivated students interested in government and politics.  The

segments.  Students will be housed at Trinity University (northeast
Washington).

Fashion and Style Departments.  Candidates must be highly organized, detail-
oriented and be able to juggle multiple tasks at once. Prior internship

Youth Corps
Awards & Scholarships
Target All-Around Scholarship: The Target All-Around Scholarship program is
unique as it recognizes volunteer work as well as academic achievement.
Target awards over six hundred $1,000 All-Around Scholarships each year,
including one $25,000 scholarship to a high school senior and college
student age 24 or younger. Target All–Around Scholarship recipients are
selected by an independent organization, not by Target Corporation
employees. The Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc. (CSFA)
chooses recipients based on:  Number of community volunteer service hours,
Volunteer leadership awards and honors, Grade point average of 2.0 or
higher (C average) and an appraisal form completed by volunteer supervisor

•  Presidential Freedom Scholarships:  The Presidential Freedom
Scholarships are available again this year. This program, administered by
Learn and Serve America at the Corporation for National and Community
Service, provides Presidential recognition and a $1,000 college scholarship
to high school juniors and seniors for their leadership in community
service. The Corporation provides $500 which must be matched with at least
$500 secured by the high school from the community. Students must complete
at least 100 hours of community service to be eligible for the scholarship.
This year the Corporation is offering up to 7,800 scholarships. For more

On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
• Volunteers Needed in the Office - Youth Corps members are needed to
help in the office once a week (Monday- Friday 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm). This
is an opportunity to become active in program development and planning,
practice your administrative skills (typing, filing, calling community
organizations, etc.), and earn volunteer hours at the same time.  Help is
also needed in the office for grant, scholarship and awards research.

Youth Initiated Service Projects
Tell us your ideas! The Leadership Council wants to hear your ideas for
future service projects. You can present your ideas at the monthly
leadership council meetings, or by contacting Kim. Projects that fit into
the HEADS UP focus areas will receive priority funding, but all ideas are
welcome and will be considered.
