Scholarships and Programs
(Applications are available in the Guidance Office)

***Remember…students should not pay ANY money to receive help with locating
scholarships.  DO NOT give money to agencies that guarantee scholarship
prizes!***

Seniors – let me know where you have been accepted!  We will have a display
titled, “ACCEPTANCES 2006” in the Guidance Office to show off our seniors!

Career Explorations Workshop – FSU will be hosting a Career Explorations
Workshop for high school students.  The workshop will be six weeks long and
take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  If you would be
interested in attending, contact Mrs. Rudd in Guidance.

Seniors can now apply for Bright Futures and other types of Florida
Financial Aid.  See the following directions for assistance.
1. Go to www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org.

2. Click on State Grants, Scholarships, and Applications (on the left).

3. Click on the third bullet on the left (Apply Online: Initial
Student).

4. Read the important information they have listed in the six
categories.

5. Click on Proceed to Application.

6. Read and answer EVERYTHING!

7. Make sure you print a copy of your application.

**Everyone (even if you have taken Dual Enrollment) needs to choose “First
Time College Freshman” when asked what they will be classified as in Fall,
2006.

**DO NOT enter a college GPA even if you have taken Dual Enrollment classes.

application.

Virginia School of the Arts – There will be auditions in various cities.
Come to Guidance if you are interested.

Florida Retired Educators Foundation – This scholarship is for students who
wish to become teachers.  Scholarships are renewable up to four years.
Recipients must teach in Florida one year for each scholarship granted.

4th Annual Creative Story Writing Contest – Students can earn between $20 -
$50 for writing creative story (500 words or less).  Forms are available at

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship Program – 11th grade students have
the opportunity to earn between $2,500 - $25,000.  Students must have a
2.75 GPA.  Applications are available at www.discovercard.com/tribute.htm.

Congress-Bundestag Vocational Exchange Program – There is an opportunity
for seniors who are taking vocational classes to spend one year in Germany
exploring their vocational interests.  Applications are available at

Delta Sigma Theta – This $1000 scholarship is available to minority
seniors.  Students must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and will attend some sort
of post-secondary institution.  Come by Guidance for an application.

Tallahassee Museum – Volunteer Youth Team – This program is for teenagers
15-17 years old who have an interest in the wildlife and/or history of the
Big Bend region.  This is a great way to earn community service hours.

Lombardi Scholarship Program – UF – This program is for seniors who are
seeking admission to UF for Fall, 2006.  More information and an

Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet – This scholarship is for senior track
athletes.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA and plan on attending a post-
secondary institution.  More information is available at www.bhitm.org.

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy – Students must be nominated for
these scholarships.  Visit www.AMDA.edu for additional information.

Florida Engineering Society High School Scholarship Program – This
scholarship is for seniors who plan to enroll in an accredited engineering
program.  Students must be U.S. Citizens and have a 3.5 GPA.  Students must
also have the minimum test scores: SAT 600-Math, 500-Verbal; ACT 26-Math,
21 English.  Visit www.fleng.org for additional information.

National Wild Turkey Federation – This scholarship is for seniors who will
pursue a degree of higher education.  Must have a 3.0 GPA.  Prize money
ranges from $250 - $10,000.

The Randolph-Macon College Presidential Scholars Program – Awards range
from $5,000 - $20,000.  Must be nominated.

The Able Trust – Florida Youth Leadership Forum – This retreat is available
to 10th and 11th grade students with disabilities.  The Forum will take
place from July 20th – July 23rd.  Additional information and applications

House of Representatives – Pages and Messengers – The House of
Representatives is looking for students willing to be a Page or a
Messenger.  Pages must be between 12 and 14 years old and Messengers need
to be between 15 and 18 years old.

Oprah’s National High School Essay Contest – Students can win a trip for
two to Chicago.  Students need to write a 1,000 word essay on “Why is Elie
Wiesel’s book Night relevant today?”  Visit

2006 Eagle Preview Dates
-Thursday, 2/9/06 from 5:30pm – 8pm.
-Thursday, 5/11/06 from 5:30pm – 8pm.
Both will be held on TCC’s campus.  Two $500 book scholarships will be
given away at each date.
