The Bios:

Wayne Hogan, Class of 1974
Category: Sports/Athletics
Once the voice of the Mighty Godby High Cougars, this grad has gone on to
a very illustrious career. As the Sports Information Director and acting
Athletic Director at Florida State University, Wayne’s publicity role was
instrumental in 1993 when Charlie Ward was named Heisman Trophy winner and
FSU won the National Championship. Wayne later served nine years as
Athletic Director for the Montana Grizzlies. During Wayne’s tenure the
Grizzlies won two national football titles, (1995, 2001). Wayne was most
recently Georgia Tech’s Associate Athletic Director.

Roger Day, Class of 1980, Police Officer, Florida Lottery
Category: AGG Volunteer
After stints as the official photographer with the Godby Courier and the
Godby Yearbook staff, Roger never stopped covering the Godby beat. Roger
is the immediate past president of the AGG and continues to volunteer
countless hours of his time for multiple school and alumni events. Roger
is likely to be seen with camera around his neck at a Cougar football
game, basketball game or any number of class reunions. In 2013 Roger
helped to implement the Godby Reunion Designated Driver Program.

Laura Ganus Cogdill, Class of 1980, LCS Elementary Teacher
Category: Medical/ Health
In 2010, at the 30th reunion for the Godby High Class of 1980, Laura
married former Godby classmate John Dennis Cogdill. While the marriage
ceremony was full of fun and excitement, the year Laura and Dennis spent
together was not always fun. You see, Dennis passed away in 2011 after a
courageous battle with brain cancer. During this difficult period, Laura
chronicled Dennis’s journey her book “Liquidating Life”. This memoir is a
testament of love, laughter, tears and faith.

Steve Gilmer, Class of 1990, Senior Vice President Houghton Mifflin
Harcourt (HMH)
Category: Education
Former State Champion Football Coach, Art Witters, describes Steve as the
finest example of a true student athlete. After a quick look at Steve’s
resume anyone else would describe Steve as: OMG. Steve’s notable career
path began with IBM, founding partner of Obvient Strategies, Microsoft
before becoming an executive at HMH. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is a
provider of educational books and materials for school districts
throughout the United States. HMH records over $1 billion in sales
annually and has 45% of the US market share. In addition to the core
curriculum material (math, reading, science and social studies) HMH also
boosts titles such as Curious George, the Hobbit series and Betty Crocker.

Lanetra Bennett, Class of 1996, WCTV Reporter and Producer
Category: Professional
Lanetra is a very familiar face here in North Florida and South Georgia.
15 seconds of fame was never enough for Lanetra. Lanetra stays very busy
as an acclaimed television reporter and brings the WCTV audience
continuous news coverage of the area. Simply put, Lanetra tells us daily
what’s going on around our City. Whether it’s a police manhunt for a
felon, following the Trayvon Martin case, getting a ticket from a red
light camera or just ice skating at the Civic Center, Lanetra keeps us
informed and does it well.

LaCrai Mitchell, Class of 2011, Cable News Network International (CNNI)
Newsource, Intern
Category: Fine Arts
LaCrai is one of our brightest shooting stars. LaCrai is a Godby High
Salutatorian and former Leon County Student School Board Member. This
young talent is already making her mark in Journalism. LaCrai co-produced
a nationally acclaimed news magazine show last year, that celebrated the
125th anniversary of Florida A&M University (FAMU). Her news magazine show
was nominated and selected for an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’
student Emmy, which is formally known as a College Television Award.
LaCrai was awarded the student Emmy in Hollywood, California, where she
was presented her award by actor Eric Balfour. LaCrai studied abroad in
Spain last summer and was recently awarded the Barbara L. Frye Scholarship.
