2017 AGG Hall of Fame
Dear Godby High Alumni and Faculty,
Join me in congratulating the 2017 Association of Godby Graduates (AGG)
Hall of Fame Inductees. The AGG Hall of Fame recognizes graduates for their
life time accomplishments and contributions. These new inductees typify the
caliber of Godby High alumni that are working every day to make a
difference. They do us proud.

The Hall of Fame committee has once again selected an outstanding slate to
be inducted this April.

Please plan to join the AGG on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in the
Godby High Media Center to help celebrate this new slate of Association of
Godby Graduates Hall of Fame inductees. Tickets are $20 each or a reserved
table for 6 for $125. All proceeds support the AGG scholarship fund. The
Godby High National Honor Society students will serve the meal and be
recognized.
Contact me, Manny Joanos, at [log in to unmask] , or call 559-3404 for
more information and tickets.

The 2017 honorees are:

Alfred and Vi “Isaac” Dennis, class of 1970 & 1972, Category:
Professional
Alfred is formally the State of Florida’s Inspector General with the FDLE.
I think this makes Alfred the highest ranking law enforcement official
among the Godby High alumni family. He has previously been named to the TCC
Hall of Fame. He is now retired.
Vi is the Human Resource Director for Leon County Schools. She supervises
the Human Resource needs for over 5,500 employees. Vi, a Human Resource
veteran for over 38 years, will be retiring on June 30, 2017.
Don Parrish, class of 1973, Category:
 Sports
Don was a First Team Florida All-State football defensive end at Godby
High. He was a 101 Collegiate Football Player of the Year and played on the
1977 University of Pittsburg National Champion Team. Don was first drafted
by Atlanta and played several years in the pros, most notably with the
Kansas City Chiefs, where he was their starting nose guard. Don is back in
Tallahassee and enjoying the benefits of the NFL pension.
Butch Benton, class of 1975, Category:
 Civic/Philanthropic
Butch was an outstanding baseball and football player for Godby. When
offered a football scholarship by the Florida Gators, he opted for a first
round draft choice by the New York Mets. Butch played pro baseball for 16
years. However, it is his philanthropic works that sets him apart. He is
committed to youth ministries and is an active board member of the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Butch is currently the director of
operations at Black Bear Golf Club in Ocala.
Michael Cobb, class of 1982, Category: Fine Arts
Michael started singing at an early age. He sang for Godby High Chorus and
then he kept on singing. His most notable performance until now ……. singing
the National Anthem at a 2012 Detroit Lions football game. Why until now?
Because he plans to sing the National Anthem at the AGG Hall of Fame
ceremony on March 31st. Michael will hold the new record for most distance
travelled for a Hall of Fame ceremony---he will be coming to visit with us
from Hawaii.
Steve Davis, class of 1985, Category:
 Health/Science
People kept telling Steve, “It’s not rocket science”. Well, Steve proved
them all wrong. It is rocket science. Steve is a NASA engineer and has
received one of NASA’s most prestigious honors, the “Spaceflight Awareness
Honoree” award. He has co-authored multiple articles and is now leading a
team of system engineers in preparation for an Orion spacecraft launch.
When Steve is not busy with the rigors of space engineering, he does a
little movie star work. Hint: opposite Tara Reid?
Nate Prosser, class of 1994, Category:
 Business
Nate is now a co-owner and manager of one of Tallahassee’s most notable
family-owned businesses, Tallahassee Nurseries. He takes great pride in the
service and quality the nursery has provided the Tallahassee community for
over 85 years. Tallahassee Nurseries provides jobs for up to 60 employees
and has sales in the seven figures. With all that, Nate is most proud of
the company’s charitable giving.
