2018 AGG Hall of Fame
Dear Godby High Alumni and Faculty,
Join me in congratulating the 2018 Association of Godby Graduates (AGG)
Hall of Fame Inductees. The AGG Hall of Fame recognizes graduates for their
life time accomplishments and contributions. These new inductees typify the
caliber of Godby High alumni that are working every day to make a
difference. They do us proud.

The Hall of Fame committee has once again selected an outstanding slate to
be inducted this April.

Please plan to join the AGG on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in the
Godby High Media Center to help celebrate this new slate of Association of
Godby Graduates Hall of Fame inductees. Tickets are $20 each or a reserved
table for 6 for $125. All proceeds support the AGG scholarship fund. The
Godby High National Honor Society students will serve the meal and be
recognized.
Contact me, Manny Joanos, at [log in to unmask] , or call 559-3404 for
more information and tickets.

The 2018 honorees are:

Hugh Curry, class of 1977, Category:
 Military
Hugh is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. Hugh spent his last active
18 years as a commissioned Intelligence Officer. Hugh is now working as a
civil servant in the Pentagon. Hugh is an Intelligence Specialist for the
Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Hugh is the branch chief
responsible for formulating and validating intelligence strategies for the
United States Central Command. If I were to share anymore information with
you about Hugh, I’d be forced to eliminate you.

Marcus Sachs, class of 1977, Category:
 Professional
Marc is a retired Army Corps of Engineers 20 year veteran. On the first day
of Marc’s would be retirement, he went to work at the White House for the
National Security Council, and served under President Bush as Condoleezza
Rice’s cyber security advisor. Marc was also on President Obama’s Cyber
Security Commission and continues to work in industry as a security leader.
Marc is on watch at the gate. Again, I love you too much to share anymore
information with you.

Ernest Hooper, class of 1982, Category:
 Fine Arts / Writer
Ernest is with the Tampa Bay Times. Or, is the Times with Ernest. Well, he
is the East Hillsborough Bureau Chief. He has been the sport writer and
editor, he is a TV and radio sports columnist, he has been an NFL writer
and Ernest is the talent for the one of the hottest talk shows in South
Florida ….”That’s All I’m Saying”. Ernest will tackle any subject, any
story from the “Opioid crisis” to “growing up in the digital age”. That’s
all I’m saying.

Santanu Kumar Datta, class of 1986, Category:
 Medical / Health
Santanu is a Professor at Duke University in the Department of Medicine and
is a Health Services Research Scientist at the Center for Health Services
Research in Primary Care. Santanu has applied his research methods in
cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, lung cancer,
osteoarthritis, ulcer prevention and a bunch of other stuff. Finally,
someone I can carry on an intelligent conversation with.

Steven Douglas Barrow, class of 1994, Category:
 Civic / Philanthropic
Steve is a Sergeant with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and supervises
the Special Victims Unit. We are grateful to Steve for his service to
community, however, it is Steve’s service to special needs children that
caught our eye. As a student at Godby, Steve interned for two years at
Gretchen Everhart School for Children with Disabilities. In 2003 Steve
began a very active calling to support Special Olympics Florida. Steve
coordinates Torch Runs and fundraising over an eight county area. Steve
represented Florida in 2017 by running a leg in the Austrian Torch Run in
Schladming, Austria.

Sheddrick “Buck” Gurley, class of 1996, Category: Sports /
Athletics
Buck has championships follow him everywhere he goes. While at Godby High,
Buck was a State Champion for Discus and the Shot Put. While Buck played
football for the Florida Gators, the Gators were SEC champions twice and
the National Champions in his first year there. While Buck played football
for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa won the Super Bowl and were the
National Champions in 2002. While Buck played football with Frankfurt
Galaxy NFL Europe, the Galaxy were World Bowl Champions. Buck is out of
ring fingers.
