Please plan to join the AGG on Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m. to help celebrate
this new slate of Association of Godby Graduates Hall of Fame inductees.
Tickets are $15 each. All proceeds support the AGG scholarship fund. The
Godby High National Honor Society students will serve and be recognized.

Our guest speaker on March 7 will be:
John Lawrence, Godby High Principal 1973–78. Mr. Lawrence taught biology at
Godby High prior to becoming an assistant principal in 1969 and then
Principal in 1973. John retired from the Florida Department of Education as
a Bureau Chief in 1995 and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer
for JVL Education, Inc. an educational consulting firm.  Among Mr.
Lawrence’s clients are the Brevard and Dade County School Boards, the
Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department

The 2008 honorees are:
Dr. Patti Skates, c/o 1972. (Category: Civic) Patti currently teaches
American Government at Red Banks High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Patti is an Education/Administration major and earned her doctorate in
education leadership. In 2001, Patti used her Godby Student Council skills
to be the first woman ever elected to the Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee City
Commission. She now serves as the city’s vice mayor. Patti helps organize
the Red Bank High Hall of Fame annually and has assisted in the development
of the AGG Hall of Fame.

Coach Mike McLeod, c/o 1973. (Category: Sports) After a stellar pitching
career at Godby Mike went on to be an Ace at FSU with a 20-5 record and
three no-hitters. After college Mike coached pitchers for the Yankees,
Expos and the Twins. In 1982 Mike returned to Tallahassee to assist Coach
Mike Martin at Florida State University. Mike is now in his 18th year as
head baseball coach of the TCC Eagles. He has accumulated more than 570
wins and has a .695 winning percentage.

Mr. Bruce and Mrs. Sandra (Phillips) Screws, c/o 1973 & 1976. (Category:
Godby Volunteers) Bruce and Sandra (a former Homecoming court cutie) did
not meet at Godby, however these two grads did meet later, married and had
two boys, Bruce Jr. (c/o ‘03) and Trevor (c/o ‘07) who each graduated from
Godby. Bruce and Sandra have a combined total contribution of over 5000
volunteer hours to Godby spanning the 8 years that their two young men
attended and participated in wrestling, swimming, band, chess team and the
honor society. Bruce, through his business, Bill’s Signs, has also donated
over $4,500.00 worth of banners and signage to numerous activities for the
school.

Dr. Edwardo Williams, c/o 1974. (Category: Health & Medicine) Upon
graduating from Godby this honor student completed the School of Pharmacy
at FAMU and then graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of
Florida. Edwardo completed his residency at the Duke/Fayetteville AHEC
Family Practice Residency Program; Fayetteville, N.C. Edwardo has been
medical director for Family Health Centers Inc., Fort Myers, Fl. and for
Miracle Nursing and Convalescent Home, Tallahassee. He previously served as
chief of staff at Tallahassee Community Hospital and is currently a family
practitioner at Bond Community Center.


Mrs. Daphne (Williams) McClain, c/o 1980. (Category: Education) Daphne is a
Godby ex- Civinette and honor student who began teaching Spanish at Godby
in 1990. She chairs her department, sponsors the Brain Bowl, sponsors the
Spanish Honor Society and sits on the Site Base Management Team. Upon
graduating from Florida State she furthered her education and studies in
Spain and Costa Rica. Daphne’s daughter Meredith is a 2007 Godby graduate
and daughter Adriane will graduate from Godby in May 2008.

Justice L. Clayton Roberts, c/o 1983. (Category: Professional) In January
2007, Governor Charlie Crist appointed this Godby graduate to the Florida
First District Court of Appeals Bench. Clay’s career has been amazing. He
is a 1987 U.S. Military Academy graduate. He has served our state as Deputy
Attorney General, Executive Deputy Attorney General, Director of Florida
Division of Elections and General Council for Florida Department of State.
