2016 AGG Hall of Fame Bio¡¦s
Joe N. Thomas class of 1970 Category: Civic
Joe¡¦s mark on this earth is on the thousands of Tallahassee¡¦s youth
that he has mentored at the Walker/Ford Community Center. He has been a
role model, a brother, a father or a friend to so many young people. Our
city is a much better place because of Joe. Oh, and by the way, Joe was a
great football player for both Godby High and Florida State.
Vernon T. Foster class of 1971 Category: Military,
Posthumous
Senior Chief Quarter Master Vernon T. Foster was a 16 year Navy Veteran and
an exemplary Senior Petty Officer. While at Godby High Vernon was an
excellent student and ran on the track team. Vernon paid the ultimate
sacrifice in defense of our country in an attack on the USS Stark while in
the Persian Gulf on May 17, 1987.
Carol Marchant class of 1976 Category: Education/Fine Arts
Carol has truly followed her passion all over the world. Music is
her passion. She has taught and developed outstanding music programs in
Duval, Brevard and in Leon counties. She received the ¡§Brevard Award of
Excellence¡¨ in 1999. Carol has performed on notable stages such as;
Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera house and at an
international music conference in Holland. No doubt Carol was Mr.
Bradford¡¦s band room pet,ƒº and she made the 1975 & ¡¥76 Florida All-State
Band on the clarinet.
Don May class of 1985 Category: Business
Don has spent most of his adult life climbing the ladder at Farmers
and Merchants Bank. He is now the Senior Vice President of Tallahassee
operations. Don is FMB¡¦s top lender and their go to guy. Don is also very
community oriented. He is a past president of the YMCA, belongs to multiple
community cubs and sponsors an annual fundraiser for the Diabetes
Association that has now raised over $68,000.
Scott Angulo class of 1989 Category: Professional
Scott is and should be everybody¡¦s hero. He makes all Godby High
alumni very proud. On November 22, 2014, Officer Angulo, while at home,
secured his family¡¦s safety first, he then put on his vest and answered the
call to duty that was in process on the road he lived on. Officer Angulo
found; the home that was deliberately set afire, one deputy down and
another deputy wounded. He then took charge of this deliberate ambush and
ended the conflict by fatally wounding the aggressor. Officer Angulo, a
former wrestling and soccer athlete, is the reason the AGG celebrates the
AGG Hall of Fame each year. We want all to know that Godby High graduates
are the best.
Jesse Forbes 1979 ¡V 2015 Category: Stewardship
Award
Coach Jesse Forbes has been a teacher and coach at Godby High for
37 years. As head track and assistant football coach he has an incredible
win-loss record, 3 Football state championships and 5 Track championships.
Coach Forbes has already been inducted into 4 other Hall of Fames; State of
Florida Track and Field, FACA Coaches, FSU Track and Field and the Leon
High. He has been a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of Godby
High students, both male and female. If you missed it, the Godby High track
is now named the ¡§Jesse Forbes Track¡¨. Well-deserved Coach.
In 2015 the AGG began the Stewardship Award to recognize individuals that
played a major role in the lives of Godby students. This award can be
received by a non Godby High graduate. Senator Bill Montford was the first
recipient.
