National School Bus Safety Week, October 20th - 24th is celebrated across
the nation to promote school bus safety awareness, education and the
outstanding safety record of school bus transportation throughout our
nation. The National School Bus Safety theme, “Stop on Red, Kids Ahead”
reminds school children and motorists of hazards when the bus is loading
and unloading at a school bus stop.
The National School Bus Safety Week is an excellent opportunity to think
about ways to maintain the safest school bus environment and remind
students, parents and motorists about the importance of school bus safety
on and off the bus. It is important that all school bus riders understand
the school bus safety rules. The Leon County School District provides
policies and safety tips to schools and parents for discussion with their
students/children to ensure that there is an understanding of what is
expected of them while riding the bus, waiting at the bus stop or at the
school bus ramp.

This is a time to recognize all of the dedicated school bus transportation
employees who put safety first in the transporting of our students to and
from school each day. Our district’s school bus maintenance staff has a
comprehensive school bus safety record and bus maintenance program to
ensure that our school buses meet our states safety standards. Leon County
School Bus Transportation Department transports thousands of students each
day and travels several million miles a year. Please recognize these school
bus professionals for a job well done and a safe journey for every student
each and every day.
