The Tigers of Griffin Middle School participated in Florida's attempt to
break the current Guinness World Records for the most students reading
aloud at the same time in multiple locations. We were delighted to welcome
members of the Channel 27 News Team (Brandon Beyer), Mr. Antwan Key (Leon
County School District News) Department of Children and Family Services
members (Lucy Hadi, Frenchie Yon, Greg Keller, Matt Howard, Tami Boyett,
Susan Dickerson, Erin Geraghty), and Mr. Darius Jones (Godby High School
Guidance Counselor) to this event to serve as witnesses and cheer us on at
11:25 AM! Mrs. Janet Cook (GMS Reading Coach) and Ms. Carla Nolan (GMS
Language Arts Co-Department Chair) served as Lead Readers for this
successful and exciting event. Middle grade students throughout Florida
were registered to take part in this historic event and the students of
Griffin Middle School were also included. Way to go, Tigers!

According to the Guinness World Records, the record attempt is for Most
People Reading Aloud Simultaneously in Multiple Locations. The current
record is set at 155,528 pupils from 737 schools throughout the United
Kingdom who read William Wordsworth's poem Daffodils on March 19, 2004.

Stay tuned for more details as we gather official documents to send to the
Department of Education that willbecome records for this event!
