Congratulations to our 368 students who earned All "A", A/B, or Citizenship
Honor Roll during the 1st nine weeks of the 2006-2007 school year. Student
names were listed in the November 14, 2006 Tiger Team Update! All Honor
Roll students have celebrated their success in a fun filled Honor Roll Ice
Cream Social. Honor Roll students also received gift certificates from area
businesses and bumper stickers! Student names will also be posted on the
campus of Griffin Middle School! Way to go, Tigers!

Let Your Child Give You a Progress Report

Your child received his/her progress report today (11.14.06). While you’re
discussing how well he/she did, why not talk about how well you are doing
as a parent this year?
Give yourself five points for something you usually do, zero points for
something you never do—or any score in between you think you deserve.
Then ask your child to grade you. Don't be surprised if your child
disagrees with your assessments and try not to be defensive! Use both of
your assessments to begin a conversation that will improve your
relationship with your child.

Time. Do I spend enough time with my child? Am I available when she needs
me?
Feedback. Do I give my child praise when she deserves it and avoid
criticizing her too much?
Caring. Do I let my child know that I care about her problems and her
schoolwork?
Communication. Do I really listen to what my child says? Do I make my views
clear?
Authority. Do I make and enforce rules fairly? Do I let my child have a say
in decisions that affect her?
Teaching. Do I help my child learn new things?
Friendliness. Am I "approachable" and pleasant to be around?
Acceptance. Do I accept my child for who she is instead of trying to make
her into someone I think she should be?
Love. Do I tell my child and show her I love her often enough? Does she
know I love her, even when I'm angry?
Role model. Are my actions consistent with what I say is good behavior?
Independence. Do I give my child more freedom, as she demonstrate she can
act responsibly?
Reliability. Am I consistent in my treatment of my child? Does my child
know what to expect from me?
How did you score?
Above 48 means you are doing an excellent job of parenting this year.
Thirty-six to 47 is average. Below 36? Try some of the ideas in the quiz to
improve your parenting.

Attention ALL ELEIGIBLE 8th grade students --
Friday, November 17th is the last day to sign up for the December 1st
Bowling Trip. The cost is $10.00 for the bus and two games and a signed
green permission letter. You will need to wear tennis shoes with white
soles so that you do not need to rent bowling shoes. After bowling 2
games, we will be going out to eat lunch. You will need money for lunch
also. See Mrs. Register for a parent permission letter or to sign up for
lanes if you have not done so already.

Attention all 8th grade students going to Washington D.C. --

ALL MONEY) by Friday, November 17th. If you need more order forms, see
Mrs. Register. Remember that all checks are to made out to Griffin Middle
School.

Also, you may pick up more order forms or books for the Uncle Jerry's Tee's
