Spotlight on our Media Center

Hats off to our Media Center faculty members! Our Media Center is the
center of learning for all Griffin Middle School teachers and students.
Mrs. Gilleland, our Media Specialist, is ready and willing to help our
students select a book, complete research or share information that serves
to enhance teaching and learning in Tigerland! Mrs. Folsom and Mrs. Thomas,
our dedicated media center instructional assistants, are also available to
assist our Media Center visitors.
During the month of October we had over 95 individual classes take
advantage of Media Center classes, use a variety of Media Center
materials, and use one of our laptop labs in the Media Center! All of our
students have check-out cards that allow them to check out books. Our Media
Center is wireless, too! Students must have their internet permission form
signed before they can use the supervised internet system within our Media
Center. As you can see, the Media Center is the center of enhanced teaching
and learning at Griffin Middle School!

Message from the Principal, Mrs. Gayle

Learning is alive and active at Griffin Middle School! I completed several
Classroom Walkthroughs this week and saw our students engaged in critical
thinking activities. Our students can clearly articulate what they are
learning and how it fits in to the overall standards and benchmarks for
their grade level and subject area. I have conferenced with several
teachers this week concerning how they plan to take learning to the next
level at Griffin Middle School.
We are coming into the second week of our PTO Booster Drive and
some homeroom classes have already reached their goal of 100%
participation. Looks like we are going to have several class celebrations
to acknowledge their support of our PTO! Just in case you have not sent in
your donation for our Booster Drive Campaign, you have until Thursday,
November 10, 2005. As always, thanks for your continued support of our
school! Have a positive week!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

November 15, 2005 Picture Re-take Day!

Please support our PTO Booster Drive. Our 2005 Drive ends on Thursday,
November 10, 2005!

Want a place in the GMS 2006 Calendar? See your Homeroom Teacher before
November 18, 2005 to purchase your special day in our calendar for the low
price of $1.00.

Your child¡¦s math homework may look different from what you studied as a
child. Remember that today¡¦s schools prepare kids for jobs in which they
might:

ƒt * Solve real-life problems.
ƒt * Explain how they find answers.
ƒt * Notice and understand trends in data.
ƒt * Use modern technology.

Please review and sign your child¡¦s Agenda Book each evening!

Our Spelling Bee will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 2:50 PM.
Good luck to all classroom winners!

Our 6th graders are going to the Challenger Center on November 14th, 16th,
17th or 18th. Stay tuned for details, Tigers!

Tackle Backpack Clutter, Tigers!

To stay organized, kids must clean out their backpacks. Most need
encouragement to do this on a consistent basis. Each weekend, have your
child file papers within his/her backpack in class folders. There are
probably some papers in there for you!
