10 Ways to Motivate Your Tiger Teen To Read

1. Set an example. Let your teen catch you reading and taking
enjoyment in reading.
2. Have reading materials readily available. Keep a variety of books,
newspapers, and magazines at home.
3. Cater to your teen’s interests. Point out articles, news stories,
and books about subjects that your teen is interested in. This can include
the sports and entertainment sections of the newspaper.
4. Give magazine subscriptions as gifts. Timely magazines with lively
bite sized articles are especially inviting to teens. Besides, it’s fun to
get mail.
5. Share what you have read with your teen. Talk about the books,
articles and other reading materials that you have found interesting and
ask your teen to do the same.
6. Be accepting. Realize that almost anything your teen reads has
value because it motivates more reading. This includes comic books and
cartoon books.
7. Browse together. Stop at bookstores and libraries when you are out
together.
8. Play audiotapes of good books when you are in the car together.
Your teen might want to read the book later on.
9. Interest your teen in the world. Discuss current events, sports,
music and other subjects that might inspire your teen to read about them.
10. Show an interest in what your teen reads. Ask for recommendations
of books you might enjoy.

Message from Our Principal, Mrs. Gayle

We have had another great week in Tigerland! Our students have been
working hard in all subject areas. I continue to be proud of their
academic and social progress.

Our Girls Soccer Team (Head Coach Osborne) and Boys Basketball Team (Head
Coach Gilmore) have had an awesome season! We are expecting both teams to
make it to the Division 1A Championship game. Please check the schedule
and plan to come out to cheer the Tigers on to VICTORY!

Finally, your child should be sharing their completed copy of the FCAT
Mathematics, Reading, and Science test booklets with you. Students
completed this practice information, checked each problem, and then
discussed test taking strategies, skills, and other words of wisdom. These
materials are provided by the Florida Department of Education and provide
additional information that will allow you to help your child do his/her
best on the FCAT. We’re expecting great things at GMS. Have a positive and
highly productive week!

Tiger Health Tips
Friendly Heart Foods: Eat more fish!
Omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna and
herring help prevent blood clots from forming and reduce the risk of heart
disease.

Eat Right and Get Some Sleep: Along with good nutrition and regular
physical activity, adequate rest is a big part of any formula for fitness
and health. When you get a good night’s sleep, you feel better and are
maximizing brain function and energy levels.
