National Infant Immunization Week is an annual observance to promote the
benefits of immunizations and to focus on the importance of immunizing
infants against vaccine-preventable diseases by age two. Vaccines are
among the most successful and cost-effective public health tools available
for preventing disease and death. They not only help protect vaccinated
individuals, but also help protect entire communities by preventing and
reducing the spread of infectious diseases.

In recognition of observance, The Leon County Health Department will
provide special childhood immunization clinics during the Week of April 19-
26, 2008 (this week). Infants and children, including children needing
immunizations to enter kindergarten or seventh grade, may be immunized at
the free clinic - the last of three held this week.

While an appointment is strongly encouraged, children may be seen on a
space available basis today, April 23rd (4:00 - 6:30) at the Leon County
Health Department, 2965 Municipal Way.

All children receiving immunizations must be accompanied by a parent or
legal guardian. Parents should bring a copy of their child’s complete
immunization record. To schedule an appointment or for more information,
please call the Leon County Health Department at 606-8020.

Parents of children receiving immunizations through the Health Department
during National Infant Immunization Week are eligible to register for a
free drawing for one of six $25 gift certificates donated by the Northside
Kiwanis Club and VISTA Healthplan.
