How's Your Communication, Tigers?
Keeping the lines of communication open is a key to living with your
child. Here's a quiz to see how well you're doing. Give yourself five
points for things you usually do, zero points for things you never do—or
any score in between.

___1. I set aside time each day to talk with my child.
___2. At least once a week, I try to find time to spend alone with my
child. We may run errands together or go out to breakfast, but we have
some uninterrupted time alone.
___3. When we communicate, I try to listen more than I talk.
___4. I use different ways to communicate. Sometimes I write notes. I may
leave a note on my child's pillow. I may use e-mail.
___5. If there's a conflict, I try to back off and then return to the
conversation later when my head is cooler.

How did you score?
Above 20 means your communication lines are open. A score of 15 to 19 is
average. Below 15? Use some of the ideas in the quiz to open up
communication with your child.
