REVISED TARDY POLICY - PARENT NOTIFICATION

Due to the fact that we are experiencing an increase of student tardies, we
are implementing a new Tardy Policy that will remain in effect from
September 26, 2006 until the end of the 2006-2007 school year. The
Administrative Team has reveiwed this information with each
Griffin Middle School student via afternoon announcements on Monday,
September 25, 2006. In addition, each teacher will also provide direct
instruction regarding this revised policy. Our goal in implementing this
policy is to ensure that each moment of the school day remains focused on
teaching and learning at Griffin Middle School!

Please review the unexcused tardy information below with your child:
Tardy 1 – Parent receives notification from classroom teacher,
Tardy 2 – Student is warned that the next tardy will result in one day of
OSS, and
Tardy 3 – Student referral is forwarded to Dr. Gayle. The student is
assigned OSS the following day.

Upon return, the student will then be placed back at the first step of this
process. Questions? Please call (488.8436) or emai
([log in to unmask]) Dr. Gayle. Thank you for your
committment to our school's vision, mission and students!

Family Day - 2006
For the sixth consecutive year, Governor Jeb Bush and First Lady Columba
Bush led Florida's recognition of "Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with
Your Children" on Monday, September 25, 2006. This day is a part of a
national effort to increase parental involvement within the lives of our
children and it is also an effective way to reduce youth substance abuse.
The Family Day Capitol Event was held in the Capitol courtyard from 10:30
AM to 12:30 PM. Griffin Middle School was invited to take part in the
Governor's celebration of Family Day! Ms. Johnnie Mae Bush, Mrs. Fryson,
and 25 leaders of tomorrow from Griffin enjoyed the festivities and
represented our school well! Way to go, Tigers!

Spotlight on The Griffin Middle School Studio Production Club

The Studio Production Club is in its 4th year, producing quality
productions for the Griffin Student Body. All students in grades 6-8 may
participate regardless of previous theater experience. The production
club itself is completely student-run with the guidance of Ms. Bush and
other volunteers.

Students are exposed to all aspects of performance and technical
production including, but not limited to, dancing, singing, acting,
choreography, vocal performance, writing, editing, directing, stage
management, marketing, sales, set design and construction, makeup design,
box office production, and program design.

In the past, students have provided a Multi-Cultural Dinner Theater, FCAT
Pep Rally, Winter Social, Valentine Day Dance, 8th Grade Dance, Fun Day
staff, various performances on campus and off (i.e., FAMU), served as
Production Staff for activities, such as, Band & Chorus programs.
Meetings for members are once a week on Thursdays. Normally, some
rehearsals take place after school Monday - Friday while preparing for
productions For further information, please contact Ms. Bush @ 488-8436 or
