Are your kids good readers?

Nationally, kids' reading skills are eroding quicker than a sand dune in a
windstorm. Eighth graders have plateaued and 12th-graders have lost ground
in their reading abilities. What can you do to help your kids' reading? Be
a role model: read yourself. And make a daily habit of reading to, or
with, your kids. Set a time each day when TVs, computers, and video games
are off limits, and give your kids rewards for reading during this time.
Make "library dates" with your kids, and help them find books or magazines
on subjects they like.

Family Day 2006

Governor Jeb Bush has declared Monday, September 26, as Family Day – A Day
to Eat Dinner with Your Children. This event is aimed at promoting the
value of family interaction as a means of preventing and reducing
substance abuse among young people.

Supporting material about Family Day, and the important role it can play
in the lives of Florida families, can be found on the Family Day website
at www.floridafamilyday.com .

Have a positive day, Tiger Team!
