                            Tiger Team Update
                             August 15, 2006
A Note from the Principal, Dr. Michelle Gayle
Our first day of school went well. Presently, we have over 700 future
leaders of our world enrolled at Griffin Middle School. Our students came
back from summer break with a positive attitude ready to take it to the
next level in academic excellence. Our teachers and staff have worked hard
during the past few weeks in anticipation for a great 2006-2007 school
year. I am expecting our best year ever at Griffin Middle School!

The goals established by the Griffin Middle School Advisory Council and our
2005-2006 School Improvement Plan were met. We remain proud of the progress
we have made in all academic areas, especially those designated by the
State of Florida. As you know, our entire school community (students,
teachers, staff, parents, and community partners) worked hard and we earned
an “A” School Accountability grade for the 2006-2007 school year. This
important milestone could not have been accomplished without the
cooperation of everyone!

Our PTO has also been hard at work preparing for projects that will
continue to benefit all of the students of Griffin Middle School. Please
join our PTO the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Media Center.
Our meetings will last only one hour and your help is valued and needed.

We are starting a new tradition at Griffin Middle School this year in an
effort to make sure that critical information gets home to all parents. All
newsletters and announcements from the front office will go home on “Take
Home Tuesdays”. Our faculty and staff hopes that this will ensure more
parental involvement in the activities of our great school.

Please know that we appreciate our parents and their positive contributions
to our school. We look forward to a highly productive school year! Do not
hesitate to contact me at 850.488.8436 or
[log in to unmask] if I can be of service to you! Have a
positive week and expect great things, Tigers!

Schedule Change Procedures
Scheduling over 700 students is a complex and massive effort that was
completed with care and hopefully very few mistakes. Most of our Tigers
were given their first or second elective choice, so we do not anticipate
many changes within this area. However, parent/guardian requests for
schedule changes will be carefully reviewed and considered starting on
Monday, August 21, 2006. If there is a specific and valid reason for a
schedule change, the Griffin Middle School administration and guidance
staff will work hard to make these changes happen.

Requests for schedule changes will only be considered if a parent/guardian
completes and signs the Schedule Change Request Form. These forms are
located in our Guidance Department and our Front Office. Completed Schedule
Change Request Forms should be returned to our Guidance Department.

Please be aware that students will not be considered for a schedule change
without a valid concern regarding their placement. These requests cannot
always be processed immediately, but every effort will be made to complete
the process as soon as possible. Until the request is processed, all
students are expected to continue to follow their original class schedule.

Questions about our process? Please call Dr. Gayle, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs.
Jones or Mrs. Gitlin at 850.488.8436
