Principal's Message
We have had a great beginning of another school year. It is hard to believer that we have been in
school for a month. It was wonderful to see many of you at Open House in august. Our student
and our teachers worked hard to be sure that time you spent at Open House was productive and
filed with much information.

We still need your help! Some children are being dropped off at school before supervision begins -
this is a safety concern! Supervision officially begins at 7:05 am. At the time, you will see school
employees on duty. If you arrive before 7:00, it is not okay to drop your child off. At Canopy Oaks,
we strive to provide the safest environment for your child. We are able to do so only with your
help. Please be sure to let your child remain in your vehicle with you and wait patiently in the line
until an adult comes on duty at 7:05. When you see the adult you will know that we are on duty
and prepared to properly supervise your child! Please help us out by modeling for your child the
importance of following all school rules, especially those related to safety.

If you are interested in serving on our School Advisory Council (SAC), please call the school office.
Our SAC meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 pm. This council monitors the
implementation of the School Improvement Plan and often provides feedback to the district on
district wide issues.

Also, we appreciate your participation in the PTO fall fundraiser. The PTO at Canopy Oaks is a vital
and involved group of parents. Please join this group as it meets each month. Mr. Wood
Hildebrandt is PRO President this year.

Nutrition Tip of the Week
Water is the best beverage.
It has no calories. It quenches thirst better than any other drink
A well hydrated person thinks better, looks better, and feels better.
If you drank a 12-ounce bottle of water instead of juice or soda each day could save at least 4,500
calories in a month. - That's nearly 6 cups of sugar!

Start the day with a healthy breakfast.
The key to a healthy breakfast is including plenty of nutrients that your body can use to jumpstart
the day. A breakfast with protein, carbohydrate and rich in fiber can keep you energetic until
lunch. A good example is peanut butter on whole wheat toast, whole grain cereal with low-fat
yogurt or milk, or mixed nuts and dried fruit.

Physical Activity of the Week
Be as active as you can.
The more active you are the better your body works. Pick activities that you like to do so that it is
easy to keep doing them.
Limit your screen time (TV, computer, video games, etc.) to less than two hours per day.
Get your friends and family involved.
Good examples of activities are walking, dancing, bike riding, and playing ball with friends

Don't overdo it.
Do low - to moderate-level activities, especially at first. You can slowly increase the duration and
intensity of your activities as you become more fit. Over time, work up to exercising on most days
of the week for 30-60 minutes.
